  1. I would distribute the -9, and add.

    (7*2x + 7*2) + ((-9)*(-1) + (-9)*6x)

    14x + 14 + 9 - 54x

    23 - 40x

  2. -9

U could do it either way

14x + 14 - (-9+54x) and then remove the parens or just use -9 to begin with.

    14x + 14 + 9 -54x

  3. -9(-1 + 6x) = (-9)(-1) + (-9)(+6x) = 9 - 54x

  4. You should distribute -9 into -1 and 6x.  Be careful when multiplying negative numbers!

    The answer is:

    -40x+23 or 23-40x

  5. -9, it really isnt a subtraction sign after you do all of the simplifying then you just combine like terms

  6. You would use -9 and it affects all terms within the parentheses.

  7. Either read it as:

    - (9(-1 + 6x)) = - (-9 +54x) = 9 - 54x

    or

    -9(-1 + 6x) = 9 - 54x

you still get the same answer, so...

    7(2x + 2) - 9(-1 + 6x) = 14x + 14 + 9 - 54x = 23 - 40x

  8. Remember this rule:

When distributing to something in parenthesis always use the number and the sign before it. if there isnt a sign then it is a positive.
