Question:

Would you move back to Montreal from Calgary?

I find this city really trashy, it's really along ways to drive anywhere. Cost of living is double, insurance for my car is about 10 times that of Quebec, the people are rude and there are a lot of problems and it seems quite dangerous. Kinda "skiddy", would you move out of here? I don't know if I made the wrong decision to come.

I hate Calgary, but I have been here for two months, have I given it enough thought? There are good wages here but all the money you make goes to c**p.

  1. Personally I would definitely move back to Montreal but most of my immediate family lives there.  Also, the music scene is better and people are more neighbourly (you actually know and hang out with your neighbours in Montreal whereas in Calgary, you might say hi to them but nothing more).  I like how you can live so cheaply in Montreal too.  No one seems to be competing with one another - people are who they are.  Calgary, it seems to be (at least in suburbia) that people want to have what the Jones' have (ie. they feel that they need to have what their next door neighbour has)...

That is just my opinion and I don't mean to offend anyone who loves Calgary - it just wasn't for me.  I lived there for 4 years and am now in Edmonton.  Although Edmonton is better, I still am looking forward to moving out east again to a) be closer to family and b) to feel closer to my community.

    Cheers!

  2. Well, I don't speak french, so no. I might if they spoke English though.

  3. Calgary is not so bad. I must say I disagree with most of what you've described. I feel perfectly safe in this city and I don't think it's "skiddy". There are a few c**p neighbourhoods but that is true of anywhere. Where I live it's really beautiful and people are (usually) nice. You've only been here for two months so don't completely write it off. It's tough to move and adjust to a new place but if you keep an open mind I'm sure you'll find something to like about it. Plus the summer is not humid like it is in Montreal. Of course, I'm bias because I grew up here.

I hope things get better for you soon. Remember someone out there in Calgary wishes you well. Good Luck :)
