And before any minds go directly to the gutter no they do not recycle the toilet paper itself.

I just saw a wonderful documentary about faith and environmentalism called "Renewal". In one of the segments there was an American based group of Buddhists who decided among other things to give out free rolls of toilet paper from recycled sources as well as information. If everyone in the United states just used one four pack only once it would save 1.2 million trees.

And before anyone asks me what this has to do with global warming it only stands to reason the less trees you cut down the more there will be to take the CO2 out of the air and put back O2 reducing the greatest molecular contributor to global warming.

For those of you who are wondering I have been using such TP for quite some time. Honestly I can't tell much difference at all and if you are a wise shopper you can get a four pack for about $2.99 so it's not really a tremendous sacrifice.

  1. No, my family logs for a living, cutting trees does not hurt the forest.  Breaking up the land and selling off lots causes more problems then logging.

  2. I would do anything to help our envirement. It is very important that our Earth is safe. We should even do little things to help the enviroment. The earth is in our hands. Take good care of it

  3. I would use lots of different recycled papers, including TP, if they didn't charge an arm and a leg for it.  As for the ink being removed, and using lots of chemicals in the process, well, anyone who is curious can check out the link I have provided.  They tell the steps on how it's done, and give some info on any chemicals used.  Chemicals are NOT always used for all recycled products, for example if it's a cereal box, well who cares if the inside is gray and pulpy.

  4. i'm with don, i cant understand why it hasnt caught on loads more, it is exactly the same quality, and ime in the u.k. generally cheaper.

i have been using the sainsburys own brand from years ago, then they stopped stocking it in our local shop! i complained twice, and it came back a few months later. i love sainsburys, they actually pay attention to feedback from their staff and customers.

  5. Yes indeed. I have been using it for a while.

  6. I'm not a wise shopper.  I bought that same brand of paper towels (6 pk) not long ago for over $15!  Unbleached, unprocessed paper should be cheaper because it's cheaper to make--especially recycled paper!  Maybe bleached paper has more government subsidies.

Love of Truth: Yup, 6-rolls.  I asked about this in one of my "Bushflation" questions. lol

Edit: I pretty much paid full price at the market! (I was in a hurry when I bought it, though.)

  7. No and not going to either.

  8. Do you mean there is still toilet paper being made from anything other than post consumer waste?

All the packages I see are claiming to be 100%  recycled, so how can anyone be getting anything else?

  9. As long as they keep the wood chips out of it, I don't really care.  I'm always looking for a good deal.

  10. Recycling is not the best way to utilize waste paper.  The chemicals to remove the ink and break down the fibers are worse than anything used to make paper from virgin pulp. Waste paper is biodegradable and can be composted and it is flammable so it can be burned in biomass powerplants.  Pound for pound it has as much energy as wood so every ton of waste paper that is burned as an energy source is a ton of wood that doesn't get burned.  Also,  recycled paper is not as good quality as virgin paper.

  11. The next toilet paper is the federal reserve not . Not to gentle but, cheap .

  12. Local to us is the company Marcal - they have been using recycled paper (post consumer) in their products since long before it was trendy. I use their paper towels and facial tissues.

I have to admit though, I am a Cottenelle toilet tissue person. I like it. It is soft and non irritating for sensitive bottoms.
