Would you pay for drama classes for your pre-schooler?

I am a drama teacher in K-6th grade and I direct children to adults in community theatre. I am looking for work as most of my grammar school contracts are ending in March.

My question to parents of pre-schoolers; would you be willing to pay $56 for your child to receive eight 30 minute lessons at his/her pre-school?

If this seems too high, what price would be more reasonable?

Some families pay $200 for the same thing for their older students (Five one hour lessons) during spring and summer break.

  1. Hi, I am sorry but I have to agree with the rest. Also I think it might hinder their natural creativeness, as they like to act out everything they see anyways. However, if you changed your angel to the class and provided a Choir class for theater that might get you a few more customers. I would pay for someone to help instruct my child in voice lessons.

  2. Like the one before me answered, no, I wouldn't pay for my preschooler to take drama, because they are dramatic enough, not only the but they really won't retain it, and thirdly, they aren't old enough to grasp the concept, they're at an age where beginning preschool they already are learning a lot. And they do enough pretending in their play time that I dont think they would need lessons!

  3. Not in addition to preschool costs.  I do have a dance instructor who I barter with  - her two children come to preschool for half price and she comes three times a month to teach dance and movement.  I also will pass out any advertisements she has going on.  Of course,  I will pass out anything for anyone regarding children -we are a small town and that's just what we do.  Originally, she was going to come and teach dance (we call if Fun and Fitness) just for the free advertising.  If you want free advertising before the children reach Kindergarten age, you might be able work something out with the preschool teachers.  Good luck.

  4. I wouldn't pay for drama for my kids. It comes naturally! lol!

Seriously no I wouldn't because they are so young that the lessons wouldn't be remembered with that short of a time frame. At least with dance its 8-12 weeks of lessons 1 hour at a time more than once a week.

For my pre schooler no. For my third grader probably and it would be worth the 200 for the same thing simply because she would definitely take something away with her.

  5. No I wouldn't, but if my child was in Highschool or College yes that would be a different story expecially if they were really interested. Preschoolers are dramatic enough. I think the only place that this might work is in a very wealthy private preschool where parents already pay the big bucks. Seems so silly to me that parents pay for any of this stuff at the Preschool age. All they need to do is play and spend plenty of time with their family at this age.

  6. I don't think that those reading this question understand what Drama with children entails...

All children are born actors: you can see it when we observe the games they play without inhibition. When most think of Drama--they think of the stage. I'm sure you would be bringing drama through stories, puppets, masks,  music, movement and games! Sense of touch, hearing, smell, taste and seeing would all be explored...and... so much more!

In short--drama in children's programs teaches children about life and builds confidence; it nurtures  creativity and helps them to trust  their natural instinct.

I think for your idea to be successful, you would first need to fully explain and market WHAT IT IS --- as well as THE BENEFITS of a good drama program in children's play.

As long as it's geared to the child's interests and cognitive levels---it would be a very good thing!
