I'm not sure which I consider, it doesn't actually matter to me but I know many many people are passionate about it. BTW I'm from Donegal..the most northerly point of Ireland, but not in "Northern Ireland"

  1. 26+6=1.

    That's all that matters.

  2. It feels a little like part of Britain, to be honest, and I'm Irish born and bred .... but you know what, I feel that Dublin city has much more of an English feel to it than anyplace on the island of Ireland.

  3. I understand that "Northern Ireland" isn't a part of the Republic of Ireland (unfortunately) but I also know it is not a part of Britain. Britain consists of Wales, Scotland and England.

Anyway I consider "Northern Ireland" a part of Ireland because that is what it is.

  4. Yes neonpink - don't you just hate it when someone says they've been to Ireland and you get annoyed because they haven't gone to the Republic. I'm sorry to inform you but Northern Ireland IS on the island of Ireland. So you see - they actually HAVE been to Ireland.

It doesn't matter what anyone 'personally considers' - the facts are that Northern Ireland is a part of the UK. Personally I would like to see an an all Ireland republic but...that's not going to happen for a long time, if ever.

  5. I'm from Galway.. I don't mind what people from the North consider themselves but i find it really annoying when people who i meet abroad are like "i've been to Ireland" oh really, where? and they say derry or portrush or armagh. I'm like thats Northern Ireland. Growing up i knew nothing and had no connection with the North.. Its another country just like wales, scotland and england. I see it as Northern Ireland, not Britain or Ireland.. i don't tend to use the word Britain, i just see the places as individual countries i.e: Wales,Scotland,Northern Ireland,England

I think the North should be separated from Britain but also separate from the Republic too. At the beginning the 6 counties shouldn't have been separated but now that its done i think it ould be best economically for the Republic to stay as it is. The North should be independent though and definitely not ruled from England

  6. WE IN THE REOPUBLIC COULD NOT AFFORD REUNIFICATION,

West germany was one of the richest countries in the world prior to reunification, after it it entered into economic decline,

I for one do not want the north as its of no use to us, there are more dole scroungers there as its an acceptable income.

Let the british keep it as it costs them alot of money to govern, it will be their eternal punishment , like a dodgy car that you cant sell.

  7. Like the majority of people on the island, I'd consider it part of the ROI. The partition was forced upon us and against the expressed wishes of the majority of the people. It's heartbreaking to see it under foreign control, but I know this is only temporary, I hope to see an all-island Republic in my lifetime.

It's hard to understand how the Unionists/Loyalists think, when England have stated that they have no cultural, economic or strategic interest in the 6 counties, how they can still think they have links.

This partition has led to the seige-mentality of the Unionists, and has led some Nationalists to feel abandoned by the ROI, both unfortunate ways of thinking.

The ROI can afford to include the 6 counties economically, and the country will be stronger and more inclusive when the partition finally falls.

The ROI is pumping money into the North, and a lot of property is now owned by Southeners. I think attitudes have changed, on both sides, which is a forerunner to reunification.

  8. Forever Ireland. Hope it happens soon.   deburca9 We are not dole scroungers. I've worked all me life. The new irish (immigrants) cost Ireland much more that we do.
