I want to be a zoologist or zookeeper and have taken classes and made plans for college to go along with that career path. I would enjoy being a zookeeper a lot.

However, even though I plan on going to school four years, the salary is not very good. Around $30,000 a year. My family is very upset at my career choice not because of that it is, but because of the salary. My mom thinks I will not be happy and will struggle with finances.

However, she's forgetting the fact that I am one person to be living in an apartment. I don't have a child and a home likes she does!

So would you choose a career because you would love it, even if the salary is "horrible"?

  1. If you're going to live by yourself then that should be enough for you and you can enjoy the your job.

  2. salary ranges are just that-ranges. If you love your work and are good at it and work hard you will be able to make a good living. period. do what YOU, not your mom wants. it would be h**l to be stuck in a job you did not like and worse to spend your life regretting your choices.

    good luck!

  3. If you can live off of it, then its fine. If you get married and have kids someday, there is a good chance that you'll quit your job while the kids are young, and you'll be relying on your husband's income anyway.

I'd rather drive a crappy car to a job I love then drive a luxury car to a job I hate.
