Would you concider planting this tree on your property for Earth Day, eco friendliness, Mother's Day, or Father's Day?

This tree is hardy in plant zones 7-11. If you don't know your plant zone, go to this link, and type in your zipcode, and it will tell you:

  1. I would but I kill everything I plant except cactus like plants :/

    I don't kill plants purposely I am just a horrible gardener :(

  2. yes i would becuse its not only nice it will help save this rare species

  3. i want one! i would be scared to plant it out, i would keep it in pots until it was too big to move then i would have to bite the bullet.

they are really hard to propogate too, arent they?

  4. NO! The day I planted it I would be slapped with a tree preservation order, which would mean that I had a life time of protecting it, tree surgeon's fees, complaints from neighbours, the council, the police etc

    Been there done that.

The main reason I wouldn't plant it is ideological though. It has not survived in large numbers so it has not adapted to the growing conditions now . It is not thriving in my area.

Incredible that it was thought to be extinct and found not to be. Incredibly sad that we (humans) now know that it is not extinct. These trees now have to be protected and their location kept secret.

We are arrogant and foolish. Will we ever realize that nature, without our interference, knows best?

  5. Sure, why not? Plants are great for the environment. Not to mention it would be cool to have something different. Maybe that would get more people interested in having the same plant/tree, or maybe they'll want rare plants too.

  6. I have a needle palm in my yard.  It is considered endangered.  I take good care of it.

Can anyone explain to me why I get a thumbs-down for my answer??

  7. I would only plant native trees on my land (if I had some). I would love to establish a native-plant permaculture operation when I get my slice of Colorado. If I had over 20 acres, I would try to emulate the pre-colonization eco-system, including bison and other species of flora and fauna.

  8. you bet your sweet bippy

That is when i avert my eyes from indigenous principles.

and if planted in isolation it does not alter the principles for an indigenous  environment much

Of course the answer of what happens to its babies is blowing in the wind

But i must pine for the Pine .I am in the humid tropics at sea level
