  1. 1) the two parts of the sentence are paralel in meaning: you don't buy the suit & you don't have enough money to buy the suit! But, "however", "contrary", "though" and "in spite of" are used when the second part of the sentence suggests an idea which is the oppsite of the first part of the sentence. Option D (as for) means "because of", which shows agreement of the ideas of the two parts of the sentence. d) as for is correct!

    2) After the verb BE (am, is, are, was  were, will be, ...) and transitive verbs (such as "call") you need OBJECT PRONOUN. So, It was ME who called HIM in the middle of the night.

  2. 1. D. It's saying it's unaffordable, that's why you wouldn't want to buy it.

    2. A. Always say I when talking about yourself, unless it is at the end of the sentence (general rule of thumb) So it can't be B.

Do they talk like that in England?-cause they sure don't in America.

  3. Pretty much fill in the blanks and try to pick the one wich makes scence..

    Here:

1)I don't think you will want to buy that suit...........its unaffordable price.

choice a)  I don't think you will want to buy that suit. however .its unaffordable price.

choice b)  I don't think you will want to buy that suit.contrary.its unaffordable price.

choice c)  I don't think you will want to buy that suit.though.its unaffordable price.

choice d)  I don't think you will want to buy that suit.as for.its unaffordable price.

choice e)  I don't think you will want to buy that suit.in spite of.its unaffordable price.

Ok, for it it already says you don't want the suit so however would mean a reason TO want the suit, and an unnifordable price is not a reason to want something,

For b, contrary also means the opposite, so a reason to like it and again high price doesn't make scence,

For c, it just doesn't sound right or make scence,

for d, as for means it's explaining why it's bad

    expensive,

And for e same as the first 2 it contridicts itself,

try the second one on your own, if not I'l help

    HOpe I helped.

  4. 1) doesn't make sense with any of the options listed. If it were "affordable" and not "unaffordable", you would use e) in spite of.

    2) It was only we who called you in the middle of the night;

It is correct to say "It is I" or "It is we". It is not correct in formal usage to say "It is me" or "It is us".

  5. 1, "As for" seems to be the best choice, however it is a bit odd and awkward.

    2. we/you- When you use pronouns such as these, you need to insert them one at a time rather than coupling them to allow your ear to determine what sounds correct. This is related to discovering the proper relationship between subject and object.(nouns used to tell who or what is doing something is the subject and the object is a noun describing who or what is being acted upon)

It was only we who called you in the middle of the night. Change it to make it refer to one person ... "It was only I who called you." One would not say.""Me called you." One would say,"I called you." So likewise, one would not say," Me called him in the middle of the night." One would say, "We called you in the middle of the night." So... your correct response is..."We/you".

  6. 1. As for

    2.Me/Him
