Question:

Would you put up with this disgusting habit?

My Grandpa has always had terrible table manners, even before he got old and somewhat senile. Family would scramble at restaurnats to be seated the farthest away from him. One of the worst things he does is spit. He spits food out, right onto the table. If that wasn't bad enough, he's progressed from spitting food out to hocking out big wads of spit in the house and car. You'll be sitting there in the livingroom, and he'll spit out out a giant hocker onto the sofa. My aunt and Grandma excuse everything he does because he's getting senile. Whenever I have told them in the past that certain things were over the top, they acted like I was unreasonable. I'll be traveling with them soon, and really don't want spit all over the condo and car. I was going to buy some tissues and ask my grandma to talk to him about using the tissues instead. Is that reasonable? Should you excuse everything an elderly person does, even if it is creating unsanitary conditions?

  1. Gross! i would attach a chuck bucket around his neck. and no you are not being unreasonable, that's disgusting. spitting outside in public is cause for a fine in my city.

  2. Is your grandpa a caveman?

  3. As a fellow Tasmanian, let me tell you that I wouldn't be going anywhere with him.  Sounds like he's already senile and should be put in a home where he can be cared for properly.  That's gross.

  4. he never had good manners before so is late in life to teach him otherwise= mi suggestion is this have him sit in the front seat and let the driver get the hocking  and to be safe you can wear a Helmet

  5. Well if he's senile there probably isnt much you can do about it. But suggesting the tissues is very reasonable, talk to your grandma about it. Good Luck on your trip!

  6. That is disgusting. I'm sorry but grandpa would be strapped to the roof of my car if he had to travel with me.

  7. No, it's proactive and mature..you could just gripe behind his back like the rest of the family are no doubt doing, but you instead use your maturity to try to find a solution that is easy, sensible, and completely unoffensive. My only suggestion would be to make sure it is a "manly" box of tissues so that he knows they are specifically for him.
