Would you rather live alone or with housemates?

I'm looking forward to being able to rent a flat to myself soon after having had some pretty weird housemates in the past! Really glad to be getting out of shared housing and having my own space and was just wondering if everyone else prefers to rent with people, or alone and why?

  1. Alone, tried it in the past but it never worked out it is very hard to find someone do the same things you like, end of.

  2. depends on the housemates. I had a friend stay with me and my wife for about 6 months and it was great. He paid on my mortgage a little and brought home groceries above and beyond what he had to. Dont ever let a stranger be a housemate. Make sure it is someone who understands you and your ground rules and youll be ok.

  3. Reading these answers would make me worry. I'm moving in with 11 people i don't know next tues, in a city i've only been to twice in my life.

But i'm optimistic, i guess it depends on what you're looking for, doesn't it?

If you have lived in a house share before, then something quiet might be nice for a change. But it's an experience, and maybe a very lively and chaotic part of your life, which doesn't mean it's not worth it though.

I'm def looking forward to meeting new people, solving conflicts and gaining more experience in team work. I'm a bit tired of living on my own, so need a bit of chaos.

  4. I've had roommates, and now I live alone.  I much prefer living alone.  I like to have my own space.  If there's a mess, it's my mess, not someone else's.

  5. I like my own space and stuff, but i don't think i'd ever want to come home to an empty house either.  It's kindda boring that way.  But I wouldn't want 5 million people over my house all the time having s*x in my bed, like that other poster said...   Right now it's just me, my dad, and my cat, and I'm happy with that...

When I get older, married, own kids, that would be different...  I'd luv to start my own family someday...  but for right now i'd rather live with my dad, then to live on my own or with a bunch of irresponsible immature roomates....  If I were to move in with a friend, I would definitely make sure we were friends for awhile and that i could trust her with her half of the rent, etc.  Also don't forget your leaving all your stuff with her too, like if i'm at work, how do i know she's not going through all my stuff????  idk i have trust issues....

but to answer your question, housemates -- namely dad and cat, lmao....

  6. I'll never do room-mates again.

Never pick up.  Always late with rent.  Leave at anytime.  Have s*x in your bed.  Late night parties while you're trying to study or do something important.  Won't take care of their pets.  Won't do their dishes or pans.

    I'd rather live alone.

  7. I live on my own with a mortgage and I love it, because I have the whole place to myself and don't have to take other people into consideration when doing things e.g. cooking food, having TV on loud etc.

  8. I much rather be by myself.  I don't want to deal with anyone else's c**p or drama.

  9. I like to live alone if I can afford it.  If not then, I would have to get a room mate to help out with payments.  But you have to set rules if you have a room mate so things will work out.

If you already have bad experiences with room mate in the past then forget it. Just live alone so you won't have to worry about anything.

  10. Alone. I prefer the quiet and having my own space. Plus I’m a serial killer so I need somewhere private to dismember the bodies. hahhahaha

Housemates is good for a few reasons. Someone to sign for parcels. Can share Tesco grocery delivery bill. Good for security to have an extra person around.
