Assume you are in a situation that either your queen or or tower will die:

You can save your tower by using your queen to kill your oppenent's tower, but as a consequence, your queen will be eaten

or you can save your queen by moving it to a safe zone.

---------

For those who will say it depends:

say its a tie game with a set of a queen, a bishop, a knight, a rook, 4 pawns and ofcourse a king.

  1. sometimes the queen must die for the good of the kingdom.however ,if you position your queen right you can take what takes your rook.i myself would keep the queen though.it can move in any direction whereas the rook can't.

  2. Its all about position.Position is higher point and/or skill in just then just material.Position,position,position.

  3. i would want to lose the rook and not my queen. what i would do is i would out my queen in a spot that is safe and able to kill the thing that takes my rook because you never know, when they see your queen ready to take action, they won't attack (maybe)

  4. What I would do is that I would move my queen to a safe zone. Since the opposing player also has a queen, it would be best to save my queen and sacrifice my rook.

  5. the queen is worth more, save it plus whatever piece kills your rook you can take
