Question:

Would you rather take a low paying job and be happy with it, or a higher paying job and be dissatisfied?

I was offered a high paying job as a Counter Manager for a Cosmetics line for a major department store. It's my ultimate goal to find a job outside of Retail. I've worked in Retail for a long time, and I hated every minute of it. Now that there's a job offer on the table and that it pays well, I know I'd be dissatisfied.

PS: I am moving and I need to save for the move. Money is definitely on my mind, and I want to be appreciated and valued. I know this doesn't happen in Retail. Also, this job (if I take it) would be temporary. I just don't know how long I can continue to be unhappy. It's important to me that as much as possible, that I like what I do.

  1. pick the job that pays more. although you may not be happy at work when u go home u can just relax and do whatever u want especially with the extra cash.U can have lots of fun with allot of money trust me i know.

  2. In your situation I would suggest the higher paying job even if it won't make you happy. You said it would only be temporary anyway. The extra money will come in handy to cover living expenses, etc after you've moved until you land the job you really want.

If you're really really against temporarily continuing in retail you can of course take the lower paying job but you won't have nearly as much money availabe to you during and after the moving process unless you put yourself on a very strict budget (which can also make you unhappy).

If I were in that situation I would temporarily stick it out in the higher paying job knowing I can save up the extra money to live on until I get the job I truly wanted after I move.
