Which is better for a young couple to go exploring? We don't like 'roughing' it and don't want to spend too much money. We are also thinking about which country is safer and has less scammers?

Please help!

  1. I havent been to Thailand but it looks like a nice place to explore. I'm actually Filipino and in the Philippines, if you dont want to spend too much, you might wanna lean toward going to the Philippines. the beaches are really nice and shopping is like heaven with our big malls in Manila like Shanri-La, Rockwell, Mall of Asia, Robinsons, Megamall, Greenhills (great buys while sticking with a budget). if you wanna be safe from the scammers, just think well ahead and you'll be okay.

    hope this helps (:

  2. Thailand, of course!

  3. I went both countries.

    I like Philippines better. lol.

    Thailand is more safety.

  4. They have muslim terrorists in the Phillipines.

  5. I have been to Thailand and its generally the same as the Philippines. Only Thailand is more commercialized.

I would suggest for you to go to the Philippines not just because I'm a Filipino but because there are a lot of places that are not yet polluted with the typical tourist. If you and your friend are adventurous...there are a lot of places to explore here and thousands of places that you would never even imagine that can exist in the country.

I suggest for you to go to Palawan. We have underground caves, even one of the nominees for the 7 Wonders of the world and there is a jungle there that was just featured yesterday from a local documentary show. The place looks like you're in Africa because of all the wildlife living freely.

  6. I'd been to both places, Philippines is the best for me. Unless you're a SYM, the Thailand is the place to be. If you're a couple especially if you have young children, I suggest the Philippines.

  7. If you are looking for an easy country to communicate in English, I would say Philippines. Hands down.

  8. I'm Sure Bali - or Indonesia is the Best Place for you, All goods are cheap there, and the peoples of the country very-very nice and friendly, even if you just bring $1000 you can do twice in Bali than in philiphines or Thailand

  9. Philippines.

In addition to everything that has been mentioned about the philippines, the philippines just opened it's newest airport in NAIA terminal 3 serving domestic flights to the best regions in the country.

Don't forget to visit historic sites like Intramuros and go on a walking tour. (I am not anyway related to this guy but I went on his tour before and it was a blast http://www.celdrantours.blogspot.com/). You can also visit historic universities like University of Santo Tomas, the oldest university in southeast asia and University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila, part of the top 500 universities in the world.

Or you could go on a pilgrimage if you are Catholic by visiting any of the hundreds of unique and historic Philippine Churches.

Bring your family and friends and have a great trip.

  10. i would definitely say Thailand. Thailand is one of the busiest destination for tourism, there is a good reason for that.  I have travel to many places including China, Hongkong, Europe, cruises, Thailand and Vietnam.  Thailand was my favorite.  The elephant, pig, alligator show was awesome.  Besides i enjoyed Thai food more than the rest.  The beach area of Pataya was awesome as well. The city of Changmai was beautiful, must go to appreciated. (two thumbs up).  Ask the hotel where you're staying  where is the best place to shop but emphasize not tourist area.

  11. THe Philippines

  12. If you are a young couple who wants to do light exploring, the Philippines would definitely do greater things for you.

Being honest, the Philippines poses no culture shock at all because everyone speaks English, all signs and symbols are typical American, most are Christians, and the culture is heavily Hispanicized and Americanized.

Besides, the Philippines is a lot nicer than Thailand. Philippines bridges Asia and Micronesia, so you have the best of both worlds.

If you know Spanish, you can somehow use it, because the native language has thousands of Spanish words. Philippines looks a lot more Pacific Island than Asia, though.

If you want to spend too much money, center on Manila, Boracay, and Palawan. Manila has the largest numbers of huge shopping malls in the whole wide world, and the Philippines has the largest American population outside of the United States. The European designer shops you can't find in America and other Asian countries are all here. Also, since the Philippines has significantly less tourists than Thailand, the scammers are very few - in fact, you can avoid them if you stick to the glitzy areas of Manila (which you can).

Areas of Manila that are must-visit sites are: Roxas Boulevard, Bonifacio Global City, Rockwell Center, Makati City, Eastwood City, Ortigas Center, Greenhills, Mall of Asia in the Bay City, Intramuros, and Ayala Center.

Nice sights just outside of Manila: 1) Tagaytay City and Taal Volcano, 2) Lake Caliraya, 3) Puerto Azul, 4) Subic Bay Freeport Zone (former US base).

Those a little bit more far are: 1) Club John Hay in Baguio (former US base), 2) Puerto Galera in Mindoro island, and 3) Caramoan Peninsula (filming of French Survivor TV series).

Areas of Palawan that are must-visit sites are: St. Paul Subterranean River, El Nido, Busuanga, Bacuit Archipelago, Tubbataha Reefs, and if you can afford it, Amanpulo (one of the secret spots of Hollywood stars).

  13. Both countries are quite similar, so either one should work.  Since you don't want "roughing it," however, I assume you'd rather stay in the city. Both Manila (in the Philippines) and Bangkok (in Thailand) are notorious for very bad traffic conditions, but Bangkok was ranked recently as having the #2 worst traffic in the world (I think Manila was #10 or somewhere in that tier), plus people speak English, so in the end I would choose Manila.  To enjoy your stay, I would pick a hotel that's in the center of everything -- such as in the (1) Ayala Center in Makati, (2) Roxas Blvd area near the SM Mall of Asia, (3) Malate area near the Cultural Center, the multitude of music bars, and Robinson's Place, (4) the Powerplant Mall block on Kalayaan Ave., or (5) the expanding Eastwood Libis commercial area.  That way, you wouldn't need to drive and deal with the traffic - just step out of your hotel, condominium unit, or apartelle and you have restaurants, movie houses, supermarkets, pharmacies, music bars, hair salons, beauty clinics, bookstores, museums, churches, even schools, and everything else around you!

Oh, and as in any major city, there are scammers everywhere, so just take some reasonable amount of precaution. Manila and Bangkok are no worse than New York City.

  14. Both countries are fairly cheap. Both have Muslim insurgencies in the south, less so in Thailand.

If you want to explore a culture that's exotic, go to Thailand. Their tourism industry is more advanced. Better roads, their tours are more developed. Fair warning, popular beaches like Phuket are crowded with western tourists.

Philippines is more like one of those small Latin American countries. English is widely spoken, the culture is western. The popular beaches are less crowded like boracay.

I did like the hotels in Thailand better than the one's in the Philippines.
