Would you reccomend being a highschool foreign exchange student?

I am considering doing a study abroad program for a semester, but I would like opinions from people who have actually done it. Thanks!

absolutely! it may be a once in a lifetime chance, plus its ALOT of fun, just get involved in stuff while you're doin it.

Yes, I went to France (put on some weight due to the great food) but had a fantastic time.  Getting to know a culture from within is so much more interesting than just going on holiday.  I have since worked for a year in japan too and now 16 years on I look back at my student exchange time as being one of the real highlights of my youth.

I am a program advisor with Intrax Study Abroad and we offer study abroad programs for high school students. I have studied abroad and lived abroad and would highly reccomment studying abroad while in high school. We offer long-term and short-term programs for students. For our semester-long programs the focus is immersion within the culture and the language. Eg. Students are living within a family homestay and attending a local high school in which all of their courses are taught in the language of the country.
