I am currently trying to make some college decisions and I have an interest in Hospitality Management, but it is offered as a Bachelor of Science degree at the school I want to attend (University of South Florida). I'm not very familiar with this type of degree. Could anyone tell me more about it or give their opinion on it from personal experience?

  1. There is essentially no difference between a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in most situations.

Traditionally, any degree in business would be a Bachelor of Science because business is not one of the liberal arts.  The traditional difference between the two is that a Bachelor of Arts would contain no more than 30 semester hours of courses outside of the liberal arts whereas the Bachelor of Science might contain as many as 60 semester hours outside of the liberal arts.  The Bachelor of [Subject] such as a Bachelor of Business Administration might contain as many as 90 semester hours outside of the liberal arts.

The real deal though is that it depends on the college.  What is a BA in one college might be a BS or BBA in another and have exactly the same content.  Most employers could care less which you have and usually require "a 4-year degree' which covers all of these and a few others.
