Would you recommend rain ponchos for IOA and Disney?

Besides the occasional rain in the afternoon I was advised of, would rain ponchos be enough to keep us from getting soaked on the rides from Islands Of Adventure or would you recommend a change of clothes?

  1. I don't know how well rain ponchos will protect you at IOA I've never been there, but I have been to Disney.  Yes, you do get wet on Splash Mountain, but it isn't to the point that you have to have a poncho... I mean, you don't get soaking wet on it.  I do recomment ponchos though for the afternoons because this time of year it rains almost daily.  Not for very long, but enough to get you wet, and uncomfortable for the rest of the day.

I was just in Target today, they have ponchos by their camping stuff for only 99c.  Much, much cheaper than what they are in WDW.

  2. I just got back from Disney.

Outdoor rides--except Test Track--aren't closed during the rain, but they are closed for lightning.  In the past couple of weeks when I was in the parks there were at least two occasions when outdoor rides were closed for lightning, even though it wasn't raining.

Additionally, you can wear ponchos on rides at Disney.  We saw people wear them on Kali River Rapids at Animal Kingdom as well as on Splash Mountain.  Again, as another poster said, why would you go on water rides and do this?  I did wear my water shorts but only on days I went on the River Rapids.  In the 95+ heat, getting wet made me feel like a human being again.

My opinion, like everyone else, is that you should bring the ponchos.  One year I brought the 99-cent ones and just threw them away after we'd used them (as they are fairly fine-gauge and difficult to store again).  I haven't been to IoA so I can't answer for there.

  3. I would recommend rain ponchos because when the showers come they are thunderstorms and you don't get wet you get soaked to the skin!

You are allowed to wear ponchos on all the water rides to keep dry! If it is a hot day and you go on a water ride you will dry fast enough after but I would still recommend the ponchos (to reduce the risk of iruck(rask inside your leg!))

You don't have to worry about bringing ponchos with you to Disney or Universal because you can just buy one one your first day and mind it! I would advise buying them in Disney because if they rip they will give you a new one free of charge!

  4. Just back from Orlando. There is a ride in Islands of Adventure called Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges and you will get soaked on this ride. Now I mean absolutely soaked from head to toe. So I would defo recommend a poncho for this ride.

    Enjoy your trip

  5. If rain is expected in the forecast if male wear bathing suit shorts and female wear fast drying shorts.  Have a towel, flip flops, pancho and umbrella in your bag.  If it begins to rain take off your sneakers replace with flip flops put on the pancho and hope for the best.  Use the towel to clean up after the fact.

Truth is the storms are usually pretty strong so even with all this you may still get wet.  If not you are prepared.  I would not plan on riding the rides while its raining as most will stop running until the storm passes or you will absolutely get wet.

    Good luck and stay dry

  6. well first if you are going in august or begining of september its not just the occasional rain in the afternoon. its just about every afternoon. and its not just rain its thunderstorms and quick down poors.

i would advise that you take ponchos for universal and disney.

and when it rains you will not be allowed on out door rides until the rains passes anyways. so no need to worry about still getting wet on the rides cuz they will shut the outdoor rides down when its raining and you will have to do an indoor activity which are easy to find at disney world but not as easy for universal's isloand of adventure considering most every ride there is out side.

and besides you are not allowed to wear ponchos on the rides in the first place. they have place that rule for safety since the ponchos are big, loose fitting, and not fitted to you so they can fly all over the place they won't let you wear them on rides in fear that they could get caught in something and you could get hurt.

so i'd just bring ponchos. there is no need for extra clothes cuz you won't be going on outdoor rides when it is raining you will be possible walking around the park to get to an indoor attraction but you shouldn't get so wet that you need a change of clothes.

PS no you are not allowed to wear the rain ponchose on rides. they will tell you to take them off before getting on.

they are very strict about it.

it can be a safety hazard if the poncho gets caught on something.

  7. You are allowed to wear your poncho on all rides at IOA.  And you will see lots of people do.

    Have fun!!
