Would you recommend studying abroad in Montreal?

I am thinking about studying abroad at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. If I choose to do so, I would go for the Winter term beginning in January 5 - April 30, which is the winter time there for the most part. If you live/go to school in Montreal, or if you attend McGill, would you recommend it? It's part of an exchange program at my school, so it costs the same as my tuition.

  1. I attend McGill University, and I love it! To be completely honest, I really hate the red tape and the administration, but since you will be studying abroad, you should go through the international student services office as much as possible. Over there, they are actually helpful.

The city is great! There is something for everyone! I love all the museums and restaurants, but many of my classmates enjoy the bars and night clubs...The weather in Montreal in the winter semester is really nasty, but you get used to it. With the underground city, you can get around most of the city while being outside for only a few blocks at a time. Even with the high winds, snow, and lack of sun, the city remains beautiful.

The professors in the linguistics department are fantastic! I have also enjoyed the religion classes I've taken. What are you studying?

    Good luck making your decision.

  2. I was born in Montreal, and I would reccomend this city to anyone. It is diverse with many different people from all walks of life living together in harmony. Not far from McGill there are many appartments to rent in the district known as "Le Plateau". It is the "yuppie' district of Montreal with upscale shops.  Public transportationis the means of getting around in this city, the Metro", Montreal`s subway. Since you are going in the winter time, you will enjoy the city`s "Underground City". This is a labirynth of shops, restaurants, food courts, ect., more than 11 miles long, to keep you warm in the winter.  Enjoy the city!

  3. i don't live in montreal, but i live in toronto and i've been to montreal & mcgill many times

it's a great school, and montreal is a great city

it'd be a bonus if you speak french, but you don't necessarily have to, and after a while you'd pick it up. But there are many english students there as well.

I say go for it =] the winter can be bad, but it's downtown montreal and there's underground & subway so you can see a lot of the city while avoiding the icy streets
