  1. Depending on the model, of the Elan it will be about right for you to learn on and to progress up to an advanced intermediate to advanced skier level. At the price you quoted, I would inspect them for major damage to the bases, edges and overall bend pattern. If one ski has a different bend to it, then pass on them, it is broken or badly bent.  The bindings should have a DIN setting of at least 8.

Elan was one of the first parabolic designs that was successful.  They usually ski well, when properly tuned.  If you have trouble with them, rent for a few lessons and learn the new skills you need.

  2. You should deffinetly get them.  No matter what model they are, or how much they have been used, they are a good bargain.  Skis should be around nose level, so they will fit you fine.  as a beginner, you dont need world cup caliber skis.  They will be great for you.

  3. are they new or used?  how cheap is cheap?  can you try them before you buy them?  153 is pretty short, but if you are small and a beginner they'll probably be fine.

  4. without even knowing the model I'd say you found a bargain and elan makes a perfect ski to learn on usually they are soft and springy. the size is about right for you and even if after this season you find you don't like them you're only out what would amount to the cost of 1 days rental, besides I've never really been of the belief that the skis make much of a difference

  5. Those should be good for you.

Make sure you take them to the shop to have the bindings set for you.  While you are there you may want to see if they need to be tuned or have the bases ground.  Make sure that they have good edges.

What are you doing for boots?   Make sure the boots fit the bindings.  You may need to have the bindings adjusted for your boot length.  Have the shop check that too.
