Would you say Johan Santana's transition to the NL has been a success?

Looking at his numbers, they really aren't blowing anything out of the water. Everybody thought he'd completely dominate the NL but his K numbers and other peripherals are down. Thoughts?

  1. my thoughts? you have not!! looked at the blown saves by bullpen by mets every time!! johan is on mound!   8 TIMES!! 8! HE HAS HAD LEAD GOING INTO 7TH OR LATER, AND BULLPEN LOSES GAME FOR HIM! HIS ERA IS UNDER 3.00 SO YES, HE HAS DONE HIS JOB! THE BULLPEN HAS NOT!

  2. Yes.

The Mets Bullpen has blown 6 Games for him!  That would make him 18-7!

His ERA is 2nd best in the NL and the 5th best in the MLB (2.70).  Even though he only has 159 K's that is still the 15th best in the league!

He's having an excellent year as always!

  3. Absolutely. His ERA is down about 0.6 to 2.70 - that's a pitcher who is getting the job done. Lack of offense and a shaky bullpen are not his fault at all.

As for the strikeouts and peripherals...who cares? Strikeouts are fun to watch, but they are meaningless in the big picture (sorry Nolan Ryan fans) - what matters is winning and losing, and he's 12-7. It reflects that he is getting smarter about pitching - let the defense do some work and save the strikeouts for when you need them.

  4. Without a freaking doubt! The only reason this is a down year for Johan is because his strikeouts are down, but the Mets are to blame for his W-L record. He's done everything he can. Plus, for any pitcher, you can't say this is a down year. The Mets have just been S****y.
