  1. well they are eather from money or they worked hard and owe lots of money...... unless u have the Montgomery GI Bill like i do..... Thats how i paid for flight training all the way through CFII and MEI.... and its paying for my ATP right now

  2. No, they are intelligent individuals who have studied and worked hard. Having a wealthy family will not make you a pilot.

  3. With reference to the UK I'd have to say they either have money or are in a fair bit of debt because there are very few trainee programs here and it costs around £45,000 to get your commercial pilots licence, so unless you join the RAF you have to get the money from somewhere.

  4. No, I wouldn't say that.

    Next question.

  5. No I am not rich or from a rich family but it is very expensive to learn how to fly

  6. No.

  7. Definately not. They come from all sorts of background. It's intelligence and ability that makes a pilot not their parents.

A senior pilot or captain with a major airline will earn a lot of money. His standard of living and enthusiasm for the job may encourange his children to take up flying but that's not the same as you asked.

  8. They can be but no they by no means have to be.  It costs $5000-6000 to get your private pilot's license, that being the total of all all 40 hours of training.  Lessons average from $100-$140, give or take a few dollars.  I'm 15 and training for mine.  I live in a middle-class family.  If you happen to be my age, and are willing to use the majority of your paycheck, you could fund your training from a regular high-school job at a mall or at McDonald's or something.

  9. oh yes they are very much so my dear chap. Tally Ho! im off for a game of golf

  10. No. Anyone can be what they want to be it just takes hard work

  11. Me? From a rich family? Wealthy? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  12. no, my family weren't wealthy and I made it, eventually

  13. Not in my case.  My first flights were 45 minutes because I couldn't afford and hour. And the airplane (a J-3) was $4/hr wet and the insturctor was $4.

  14. maybe ive heard a first officer can earn upto £45,000 a year and a captain can earn up to £75,000 a year

  15. Being a pilot has more to do with the desire to fly than it does with how much money your family has. You have to be dedicated to even get your private VFR certification - it takes LOTS of time.

Where the real money comes into it is when you start talking about owning your own plane, insuring it, maintaining it, storing it, and nowadays fueling it, etc.  So if you know any pilots, you'll know that money usually goes towards flying first and that we're typically happily broke until we can afford to go flying again.

  16. No but they are high flyers.

  17. No they are not.  They are just ordinary working class.

  18. Yeah I wish!!!!

Im a BA pilot flying a Airbus A321, and im not from a wealthy family. I paid for most of my flight training from having a proper job, saving lots and staying with my parents while im at uni! I had cabair course at uni and its paying back.

  19. I talk to pilots all day long, from all over the country, from all walks.

No, they are not from wealthy families, and no, they are not all intelligent.

They are just normal folks, just like you.

If you want to fly, but don't think you can do it unless you are rich, just enroll in a school.. they will find financing for you.

  20. I'm not although I wish I was. Maybe if I was I wouldn't appreciate the privelege I have as a pilot as much as I do. Most of the commercial pilots I know if they didn't receive their training in the military spent years paying off their student loans from flight schools.

  21. Many are.

Unfortunately not all (including your's truly).
