  1. Listen to your mum.  Time, I think, will prove her to be right.

  2. I would say it is true for most people. If you see someone with lots of friends (more than they can count on one hand) they are unlikely to be true friends because it takes a lot of time and effort on both sides of a friendship to keep it true.

  3. It is a very sad statement this one. Almost placing a limit on the extent of true friendship, which once reached cannot be exceeded.

A few months ago this correspondent suffered the worst two years of his life in terms of pain and sorrow. The previous six years I had interpreted as appalling and harrowing.

My point is that through all of those long years true Friends who had maintained their true nature in the good times carried on and added an intensity of care and love into the bad. New Friends appeared from all walks of life and the most unlikely sources.

Many, many more than five I do assure everyone.

My Mum was my first, best, true friend but she died young. Her favourite saying in respect of the matter in hand was, "Do unto others as you would wish them to do unto you".

  4. Yes, It is true. You can have as many friends as you can, but true friends, ones you can count on "for better or for worse" are very, very few. You should have at least one true, real friend, whom you could count on to help you in times of need, who would cry with you, laugh with you and do the hard job with you. One who would be with you, in wealth and in poverty.

  5. it can be true or it can be false... i say this because

True - we don't consider everyone as our true friend. The friend that we trust with everything, etc you name it. Very few, "that you can only count your true friends ont he fingers of one hand"

False - Of course if we are generally open-minded, we will have many friends that we think as true friends. Especially people who trust easily. So it depends on the person. Although people generally pick the first one. ^^

  6. it simply says that out of all your many friends, only few are true friends. since one hand has five fingers, one can only have five true friends. the fingers of one hand symbolize the number of friends you have; according to the saying.

  7. With a quote such as this, I think one has to also ask, "how many can consider myself a TRUE friend?"  Perhaps the number of friends we can "rely" on depends on the character of our self.

    Just something to think about.

  8. Yes that's true.

We have a lot of friends but I say we have a few TRUE friends. And the fingers on one hand demonstrates it is few.

    Your mother's right. Follow her.

    :-)

  9. Likely, not many people have more than 5 true friends; friends who are there 24/7 when you need them, and who you share everything with and know they won't hate you for the bad things you've done etc. Most people are lucky to have 1 friend like that.
