@ Serena that's a great help thank you

  12. That's a great one, but I'm allergic to flowers.  :-(  I always verbally tell myself where I've parked as I go into the building. (When you pull more than one sense into remembering what you want to remember, then you are more likely to be successful than a person who only uses one sense to try to remember where they are parked.)   Plus, as I walk toward the elevators/building (wherever it is I'm going) I try to find a point on the building directly in front of me from the vantage point of my car.  Like, let's say I'm at Wal Mart.  I look at the building, and if the sign that says "Optical" is straight in front of me, I remember that I go to the sign for Optical and walk straight out to my car.

You can also take advantage of the A, B, C and 1, 2, 3 signs.  By stating out loud to yourself where you are - like Row A lane 2, you'll be more likely to remember it.  You'll remember even better if you can make a word or a combination of letters and numbers that can help you jog your memory if you need it later. When I was a kid, I used to remember my grandparent's address by doing that - they lived in building A and were in unit number 1. A-1 steak sauce is all I needed to think about to remember it.

This site offers an explanation of how memory works and even includes ways to improve your memory (including using more than one sense to help encode the memory).

  31. My car is very tiny, so I can spot where I parked it right away... when I see what appears to be an empty parking spot near the building... You can bet it's not empty, it's my tiny car. So, I walk directly to it and there it is!
