  1. they are worse, if that is possible, they already were a bad team

  2. It really doesn't matter, the pirates haven't been good since Andy Van Slyke and they probably won't get any better.  I don't think they are very aggressive when it comes to acquiring players.  I'm sure they have the money just no testicular fortitude.

  3. Worse today, but with hope for improvement next year and thereafter.  Why else trade Bay for Hansen, Moss, LaRoche, minor leaguers and draft choices?

  4. Without Bay yes, but for the prospects they got it will pay off

  5. Well whenever you give up an All Star (which in fact Jason Bay should be) and you dont get an All Star back in return, your team isnt better

Which is why I think the Pirates arent nearly as good a team with Jason Bay )or Xavier Nady for that matter)

Although they arent as good right now, they have some good young rising talent in Andy LaRoche and especially Brandon Moss so I think they can be a good team.

  6. From now until the end of the season the Pirates will be worse than they were before the trade. It will take some time for the players the Bucs received in this trade to get adjusted to MLB playing time. The future does look better though, since the Pirates got two everyday starters (Andy LaRoche & Morris) and a reliever (Hansen) plus a future 4th or 5th starter (Moss). I see dramatic improvement in the team by 2010.

  7. They're much worse, and considering the players they gave up, it's hard to think they got equal value back in prospects, because even the ones they got aren't all that great, considering they traded their best players away.
