I had the oil filter changed, and an oil change, new air filter, new fuel filter. thats it and the labour charge was £85 standard so all in all the service cost (just parts) £85. if you have the mechanic mind and can see where i have been mugged off then let me know.

  1. I am not a mechanic but i do understand money

170 euros is a good price to pay for all that.

if you think about it in american money that would be about 85 dollars

    which is fairly cheap.

if you would have taken it to a dealer then you would have payed a lot more.

  2. £170 is $340 US or €204.

On most cars the part costs would be about £60 and the labour would be about an hour so typically £50 in a back street garage.  However, it depends where the work was done (e.g., a main dealer) and what else was inspected but not changed.  If you've been charged £170 all in and the guy has spent a further hour checking over every aspect of the car, it's a good deal even if he hasn't had to change anything.  If on the other hand all he has done is change the service parts then either you are being overcharged or you've gone to an expensive franchise dealer.

What kind of car and what kind of garage is it?

  3. £, as in UK Pounds Sterling?

That sounds about right. Remember, in the UK you also have to pay 17.5% sales tax on top of everything, so the £170 is parts, labor and tax.
