  1. Sounds what my child had last week.  The schools require they be fever free without meds for 24 hours before returning.  My child had a similar up and down fever for 4 days..it was a milder case of the flu..a doctor could not do a thing.  It started with a headache for a few days and then the stuffy nose and coughing started.

  2. sounds like he is fighting some bug. Let him stay home for another day. Imagine been in a classroom with noisy kids when you have a headache. It wouldn't be the best enviroment for learning

  3. They need to be fever free for one day before returning to school. That was the rule while I was teaching. I never asked if it was district policy or a state statue. Our health clerk checked them before they returned to class too.

  4. As a mother/teacher, I would say wait until your child is fever free for 24 hours.

  5. My doctor always says that a child should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.

  6. If the child has a temp. he/she can give what ever they are sick from to other children. I would keep a check on the temp. and if the child still has the fever in the morning I woud keep him/her home. It could be they are getting the first signs of the flu.

  7. No, don't send him to school.  If he ran a 103 in the night you should have been calling the doctor in the morning, even if the Motrin brought the fever down some.

A fever is the body's defense against attack.  Which means something's going on in there even if you can't see it.  A fever accompanied by a headache could be something as minor as an allergy, or something as severe as meningitis.  And a high fever of 103 should have alarmed you.

Don't send the kid to school to infect the teacher and the rest of the class.  Nothing shouts "I'm an irresponsible parent" quite like that.  If he has a headache, he won't be able to concentrate enough to learn anything anyway.

  8. well depends a true low grade fever is 100 if this is what your getting then yes I would, depending on the child I would keep them home even at 99.0 as rise in body temp is telling you that the body is working extra hard to fight something off and chances are even if you send them to school you will have to pick them up anyways later on and by then you have infected his/her class with whatever your child has. so yes I would keep them home lol

  9. No, absolutely not!  He should be temp free for at least 24 hours before he goes back.  If he is still running a temp tomorrow, I suggest you take him to the doc.  That is too long to have a temp.  If you are giving him Motrin, that's why it is down to 99.5.  103 is high!

I ran 103 temp and kept it down to 101.8, after a week I finally went to the doc, I had double pneumonia and wound up in the hospital.

Headache and fever are a few symptoms of pneumonia!  They are also symptoms of mono and several other things.  And may or may not be any other symptoms.  This being allergy season, it is possible it is allergies.  It's the fever you need to be concerned about!  103 is too high!

  10. My mom and elem. school nurse always said to let them go back to school when they've had a normal temp (98-99 degrees Fahrenheit)  for one day. Just to make sure they're not contagious.

  11. Absolutely not, if they are running a fever, they are most likely contagious and need not to be in school exposing everyone else to whatever they have.

  12. I would send them to school. The way I see it, is they go to school and if they aren't feeling better, or they feel worst they can go to the school nurse, and if it's bad, they can come home.

  13. If your child is having 102 and 103 fevers that is not low grade.  If it continous, a couple of days, you need to call a nurse and go from there. It's better to be safe than sorry.

  14. If they  have a fever you need to keep children home from school. Other parents will appreciate it also when their kids dont get whatever your child has. Besides if they have a fever and headache they probably dont feel very good and would appreciate being able to stay home and rest. Thats how they get better is from resting.

  15. i would send my kids to school if there fever has been normal for 24 hours

  16. If he had a temp at school they would have sent him home.  I would keep my son home for a fever, it is better for everyone that way.

  17. 100 degrees then keep em' home below 85 and keep em home thats wut i always says
