Question:

Would you serve sushi at a house party?

First of all I am very fond of Sushi.

I would like to organise a small party (12-14, plus some gate-crashing neighbours perhaps) at home and would love to prepare some snacks Japanese style. Any suggestions? Should I use frozen fish rather than fresh, which may be not so fresh as I would like it to be? (I live in London and there are some really good stores for fish)

  1. Its your party - do what you want.

My husband loves sushi he would come right away.

  2. No. Sushi is not really a party food, it is fish. Try chicken :)

  3. Love sushi. I would.it sounds good. Maybe even making some of the sushi when your mates are there.

    That would be a laugh.

  4. Remember that Sushi doesn't need to contain fish and even if you do use fish it doesn't need to be raw.

I love sushi and make my own; it looks terrible (I'm not very good at rolling it) but tastes yummy.

Try some good smoked salmon or tuna for a filling if you don't want to risk raw fish.

  5. Yes, I'd serve sushi, because everyone I know loves it! .... Do NOT use frozen fish though - in fact, only use VERY FRESH fish (not something that's a few days old).  You really need to go to a fish market and buy sushi-grade fish (but it's about 3x the price), or it won't taste very good:)  You don't need alot of it though, so the cost won't be astronomical:) .....  Don't forget edaname in the shells;  shredded daikon... and make a cucumber salad ....  green tea and/or ginger ice cream for dessert

  6. nope

  7. h**l to the yeah!

    I love sushi!!!

but not every one is as cool as me!

  8. I would say yes - I actually have seen it served up at kids parties lately and it's a huge hit even with them, so I'd definitely say it would definitely work with your party for adults.

Either use VERY fresh fish, or use a cooked fish like canned tuna, or do vegetarian sushi with things like cucumber, egg, carrot, avocado etc.

Perhaps have a selection for people who are not fond of raw fish.

Whatever you do, it will be very tasty.

  9. It's a good idea, but there are a few things that you need to observe... first thing to do is to make sure the 'people in the house' are fond of sushi too. If not, you should start thinking of other food as well.

Then, make sure the refrigerator is in good condition because sushi won't taste nice after 2 hours non-refrigerated.

Sushi must come in different sizes and tastes to attract people to try. Sushi with vegie or flower is good for beginners. It also depends. Like me, I would prefer raw fish like salmon, fresh and smell nice. The aroma of fresh fish is different from the frozen ones.

So, be wary to choose, because if you choose frozen fish, you will hurt sushi maniac like me. Somehow people who like every cooked-food won't hesitate to walk out from your house.

  10. I don't like fish, so raw fish sushi, definitely not! But vegetarian sushi can be very, very good.

  11. do buffet type things so sushi would be great as long as there are other options for people who don't like fish. I'd use big prawns and smoked salmon rather than raw fish, you know like the sushi in m&s x x x

  12. yes!  and always use fresh fish.  since some may not like sushi,  also serve teriyaki chicken drumettes, green bean wrapped thinly sliced beef rolls, and shu-mai (dumplings), which can be bought frozen, depending on where you live in london.  for veggies, serve a cucumber salad with japanese dressing.  if you need detailed recipes, e-mail me.  have fun!

  13. SUSHI IS GREAT!  I think this is a really good idea! What I suggest having some time set aside during the party to make your own sushi! It's super fun and really easy. They party guests will love it. It's hands on and they'll well get to make their roll perfectly suited to what they like best.  That means if any one doesn't like fish they can work around it and add something else instead. There is something for everyone.

    Good-luck
