Question:

Would you shelter your animal in the event having to evacuate?

I live in Louisiana, and for those of you who don't know we have a major hurricane(Gustav) heading straight towards us. Well, yesterday I went to the vet to pick up my dogs vet records and heart-guard. There were about 6 dogs in the weighting room and I asked the receptionist what was going on. She said that they were all being dropped off for boarding! I could not believe what I heard. My parish will most likely not be evacuated, we will just have a really bad storm and be out of electricity for a while. If we do evacuate my dogs WILL come with me! I would never leave them. And the biggest thing is that the vets office will be w/out electricity and possibly water to. So my question to all of you is, would you ever consider boarding your animals when a natural disaster is about to hit, or would they stay with you?

To anyone who lives in Gustav's tracking area, I hope you and your family are safe and well prepared!

  1. I live in Florida, so I know how terrifying Hurricanes are! If one like Gustav or Katrina was hit here and I had to evacuate, all of my animals would be  coming with me. There is no way I could board them, and not know if they live or die. I could not let them out of my site for a second! I just want to say, I really feel bad for all of you there and my prayers are with all of you. Please get out of there! Stay safe and good luck!!!

  2. I would keep my dogs right with me! Wherever I go they go.

I will be praying for everyone there that everyone is safe and all pets are safe.

  3. OMG....how could people do that....leave there poor innocent dogs behind. I would never do that. I would take my dog and my cat and help my grandmother take hers as well. This way i know they will be safe and i wont have to spend all my time worrying about them.

  4. I think I would take my pet with me, in fact I am sure I would, if its with me at least I know where it is. I am praying for all you folks in the storms path you sure dont need this again.

  5. Nope. My dog would be coming with me. No ifs, ands, or buts.

    .

  6. no i would take my dog with me just in case

  7. My dogs will stay with me. I don't board my dogs even on vacations. If they don't go on vacation with me the stay at my friends house who has two dogs. If the people evacuate so will the vets. What happens to their dogs then? I totally agree with you. My dogs stay with me no matter what.

  8. lol

  9. Blizzard, fire, tornado or earthquake (we don't have hurricanes here) my animals will be with me.  At least with a hurricane you have some warning to leave.  Good luck and be safe.

  10. We have several large cars, and I seriously hope that if we ever had to evacuate, we would be able to take our dogs with us. That would be my first wish...I would NOT want to leave them behind. If I had to board them for a while, though, we have a lot of friends around the country thanks to our dog shows, and I'm sure we'd be able to board them with them. If that wasn't possible, we certainly would try our best to find a place where our dogs could be safe. They're worth more than anything else in the world to me...

And I'm certainly praying for you and everyone else in Louisiana who needs to evacuate...stay strong!

  11. I live in Pennsylvania, so we're just going to get the leftover rain from down there. =/ I feel bad for you guys.. But if we had to evacuate for ANY reason, my dogs WOULD come with me. My Chihuahua.. I would take him in his dog purse, and I would take my other two as well. I'd never EVER leave them. I COULDN'T. '

    Owner of three dogs

Best of luck to you guys down by Gustav!
