If it cost you $4000 to 'update' your house to accept solar power panels, and to go 'green'- compost, etc... would you?

I would cause in the long run, 'light' is free, and i hate paying $200 a month for electricity!

we rent now, but when we get our own house, definitely!

  1. i would

  2. i would....im building a house with solar panels, and she selling power back to the electric company

  3. You figure to save $50 a month (Im guessing).  It would take you 80 months (or almost 7 years) to reap the benes.  Will you be there longer that 7 years?  Sure go ahead if they arent too visble and create an eye sore.  Then again, you have to guess electric bills will rise.  Id knock that 7 year figure down to 6.

  4. $4000.00 isn't realistic. Enough solar panels to do you any good would be cost prohibitive. Then there s the cost for storage equipment and devices. Since about all appliances are set for AC voltage and the solar is DC now you have to add in motor generators for the load conversion and add to that the loss factor of the motor generators and your need for more panels just grew.

Put your thinking cap on, if solar was the answer, why would they build aircraft carriers with nuclear power? Even the government knows this is cost prohibitive.

  5. Seems like once or twice a week I hear that there's  a 'new technology' that will double the output of solar panels.  It's an emerging technology; hard to predict if waiting for better panels is a good idea or not.

  6. Ya ..........we are getting close.......I want to see some of the new idea's ..........I have two 1"copper lines up into my attic so i can switch to solar hot water.......would love it......I wouldn't do it in a rental........but when you own and if you can affort........might try it........thanks nite

  7. I had to spend about $8,000 to provide a base for my solar panels.  I am glad I did.  With my oversize system (6kW) I heat the house as well as get all the regular electricity I need.  I must say though, I live alone in a temperate climate.  I save about $200 per month in winter, and about $100 in summer.

  8. no it's too expansive now
