Would you stay at the Motel 6 in Slidell, Louisiana?

We are going to Slidell, for my daughter's tball softball team national tournament next week. We have rooms reserved at the Courtyard Marriott in Covington, but some of the parents want to stay at the Motel 6 in Slidell, because it's way cheaper. But some parents don't. One of the parents called the Slidell police department and they told him that there is a cop needed out there every weekend. Well that was a red flag. Our girls are young and we do not want to put them in danger. Does anyone know how it is out there or if they know the neighborhood

Based on what the police told you, I would be pretty suspicious. However, I just went to tripadvisor.com, where people rate their experiences at various hotels and such.  The Motel 6 in Slidell gets so-so (not terrible) reviews from the three people who posted anything.  Comments ranged from people who loved it to those who called it "very basic."  It IS a Motel 6, after all, so "basic" is about what you would expect.  There are 12 hotels and motels in Slidell that have gotten tripadvisor.com reviews, and the Motel 6 is rated 7th overall.  As I said, so-so.
