  1. You're so naive it's not even funny. There is far more to lowering the prices than your one day strike. A single strike does NOTHING to lower prices. People already go one day or several days without filling up their cars. Has it done anything? No. The key is to lower demand slowly. Encourage bus riding, bicycling, carpooling, etc.

And fewer car crashes? I think not. Come to Vegas. No one can drive properly here and there would be a lot of crashes no matter what you said or did.

  2. I don't think a protest would do any good, other than raise the prices again.  But, I do stay at home because I can't afford to drive.   I run errands every three to 4 days I get everything I need in the neighborhood while I'm out, then I return home and stay until I have to go out again.

  3. I wish we could actually try this out. Unfortunately not everyone plans ahead and so it would be virtually impossible to get everyone to do this...

Although here is an article that says why it wouldn't work:

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18492185/

    One argument from the article:

To have a real financial impact, you’d have to figure out how to get people to keep their cars off the road for the whole day — cutting actual consumption. Of course, you’d also have to shut down ambulance services, police cars, fire trucks, delivery vans, etc. And don’t forget all those other gas-powered devices: Every landscaping crew would have to take a holiday on one of the busiest days of the year.

  4. i stay home all the time.

it's not like it would kill me.

  5. No it wouldn't, as everyone would just fill up a day later or top off their tank the day before. Unless everyone reduces their consumption on a sustained basis, the oil companies wouldn't even notice.

The folks at the top of the food chain have already made their money from selling it to the distributors and other mid-level companies that actually get it to your local gas station. If this hurts anyone, it would be your local station owner, who isn't making that much money off it anyway.

It's Economics 101 folks - there is more demand worldwide as China, India and other countries expand and grow and increase their demand for resources, the prices go up, the same as the price of steel and other materials increasing with higher demand.

  6. i think that would be VERY good...

but some people ar ejust too d**n money hungry that they are not willing to miss a day of work or walk or ride a bike to work...

when in th eend we are spending more money with the high gas prices =]

  7. sounds good in theiry but not enuff people would do it. I think if we did a thurs fri sat sun thing. like a giant sit in. it would work if enuff people did it. most people are too chicken to stand up for their selfs though.

  8. Its really not possible for a mass amount of Americans to physically stay in their homes for a whole day and not drive anywhere.  A few people, but not enough to affect anything.

  9. You would have to boycott for the rest of your life for it to work.

If you boycott for a day or two. People would just buy it the day before and the day after.

If you boycott for a few weeks it would bring down the price. But, since oil is traded on a global market based on supply vs demand. As soon as people started buying gas again and the demand went UP. So would the price.

  10. yepp I would..

  11. i dont HAVE that option.  i HAVE to work mon-fri.  and just because people dont go out doesnt mean that gas prices would go down.  i dont go out and get gas every day i drive, and i highly doubt you do too

besides, where do most people live that they can take a bike everywhere?  i live in the suburbs.  its 5 miles to the local grocery store, 12 miles to work, 20 miles to school.  thats not feesible for most people.

i gas up once every week - 10 days.  one day of not driving will only delay the gas up one more day

  12. Sure, but it isn't realistic.

What about cops, doctors, paramedics, firefighters...they couldn't stay home.

Edit : sure, if everyone stayed home there wouldn't be car crashes...but what about medical emergencies (heart attacks, strokes, etc.), or stabbings/shootings, or suicides...

  13. i would!!!

  14. It might sound good, but the truth is the damage to the economy from such a move would be much greater than any benefit from gas price movement.

Many companies, like the one I work for, could never have a day when none of us are available for work.  We would be trilled to have a guaranteed weekend off, let alone a week day.

  15. WOULD you use a bicycle once in your life instead of staying home and getting fat?

Gas in the US of **** is not expensive! Go and look how much it costs in the rest of the world and stop complaining. Thank your US soldiers for dying in Iraq to preserve low petrol prices. What a great cause. Truly honourable.

How does 8,84$ per a gallon sound? Welcome to Europe.
