  1. New York has become a magnet for people in their 20s from all over the country.  There are loads of transplanted Southerners here.  A Mississippi accent means that someone obviously didn't grow up here, but it doesn't mean that they'd really stick out for that, given that so much of New York's population are from other countries or other parts of the US.

  2. The other people said just what I was going to say.  There are so many  tourists there that they're used to hearing a lot of different accents, and they don't even pay much attention to it.

  3. I actually met a bunch of Mississippians up here about six weeks ago and I din't think that their accent was that bad,  There were some cultural issues though- It was a picnic, I went for the Blues, and they had watermelon seed spitting contests and grits sculptures.  Grits sculptures?

  4. My friend, not really. This city got people who speak with even and British accent, which is very understandable. You won't have a problem at all.

    Good luck

  5. Yes, you will stick out a little. But there are lots of people here with all different kinds of accents. Granted, New Yorkers are a bit less used to U.S. Southern accents, but New Yorkers are also pretty tolerant people.

So don't worry too much about it. Just come, and have a great time!
