I have a friend whose aunt told us all children should be molested because they like it. Now, should people like this be euthanized (her husband is a child molester) along with the perpetrators? Why or why not? (BTW both these people are in their early 60s)

  1. They definitely should be kept away from children! And "auntie" is definitely insane for thinking that children "like" being molested. Holy c**p!

So... yeah. NO, wait! Better idea! Let's have a town square hanging like they did back in the Middle Ages, when it was considered entertainment. And we'll throw vegetables and sticks and rocks at them before the guillotine falls.....

If we aren't able to do that, then YES - shove the d**n needle in as far as it goes!

  2. I think that is too drastic.  People who think like that need psychological help but they shouldn't be punished unless they act on it.  Ever see the movie or read the book Minority Report?  Punishing people before they commit a crime (or immoral act) has too many implications.

  3. Uh...no, I wouldn't.  Yes, it is "twisted" of her to say that, but people shouldn't be killed for making a lewd or socially unacceptable comment.  Killing (or even just prosecuting) a person just for their point of view would be prosecuting them for "thought crime".  (You know, like in George Orwell?)  Not a good thing.  The perpetrators themselves shouldn't be "euthanized" either.  (By the way, euthanasia means killing someone to spare them pain.  Killing "mentally twisted" people against their will would not be euthanasia.  And why is it relevant that they are over 60?

  4. When you hurt someone intentionally, you pay for it. Maybe not right away, maybe not in an obvious way, but you will eventually receive payback. It's unavoidable.

These people you are describing sound like animals, and they should be punished, if they haven't been already. If they still don't learn from being punished, then perhaps they are not very bright.

Killing these losers initially sounds like a great idea, but hurting someone will bring you payback, I guarantee it. That even applies to executing child molesters.

You may never discover the link between your actions and the results that eventually happen to you, but there will be a link.

Hey Pixie, I can see you already have everything figured out already, so you don't need to ask any more questions. You already know all the answers.

  5. Out of all crimes that can be committed, child molestation is definitely the most hated.  Society treats the offenders as the ultimate villain--and I can't say I disagree.  However, pedophilia and child molestation do not occur on their own.  People do not intend to become that way.  Usually, something traumatic has happened to them as children to bring this out.  The perpetrators are mentally ill, through no cause of their own, and murdering someone for being formerly abused would be absurd.  Why not murder the victims, too, if that's your stance?  It's been documented again and again that people who were abused as children are likely to grow up to be abusers themselves.

Even if you do not agree that pedophilia is usually brought on by sexual abuse at a young age, you can at least agree that it is a mental illness.  Nobody decides to become a pedophile.  It is a mental illness, and regardless of its origins, killing someone because they are ill is unethical, excepting true euthanasia--and even that is subject to some debate.

The excuse used is that child molesters hurt others, therefore they should be killed.  Is it also okay to kill someone with a communicable disease?  People die from the flu every year, can we "euthanize" them also?

People who are pedophiles, PARTICULARLY those who have not abused anyone, deserve help and support in the same way that any other ailing person does.  This could be in the form of therapy, anti-libidants, or for those who feel they cannot control themselves, voluntary castrations.  This sounds drastic, but it's a far cry from an execution.

Simply killing individuals who do not fit into society's ideal picture is unacceptable.  Are all types of abusers subject to death?  Where should the line be drawn?  Do we gun down everybody that has ever hurt anybody?  All of us are guilty of something, no matter on how small a scale.

Child molestation is detestable and inexcusable, but I feel that we make the problem worse by perpetuating a society which would largely prefer a violent solution rather than giving these people real help.  Who could come forward to a therapist as a pedophile?  I don't know much about pychologist's codes of conduct, but I'm pretty sure that anyone assessed as a possible threat to others must be reported.  I can't say how much hope there is for these people by getting therapy, but the least we could do is hospitalize them and keep society safe, without resorting to execution.  In my opinion, that would make us far worse than the people we are killing.

That being said, if your friend's aunt and uncle were to be hit by a truck in a freak occurrence, I wouldn't lose too much sleep.  Children "like it?"  Seriously.

  6. THOU SHALT NOT KILL so sorry, no.
