Question:

Would you take a 7 year old to see Iron Man?

My dad said there's "nothing bad" in it that a 7 year old can't see, but my mom thinks I shouldn't take my son to see it. I am usually pretty careful about what I let him watch...for example, very little Cartoon Network and none of the Disney Channel shows for preteens like Hannah Montana or Zoey 101 (he's only 7!). But he has seen the Indiana Jones movies and Jurassic Park. That's all I have to compare Iron Man to, sorry. What do you think? Would you take a 7 year old to see it or not...and why?

  1. I think it will be fine if he saw it. If you want to be extra sure it is ok, go see it yourself first. If he has seen the Jurassic Park and Indianna Jones, obviously Iron Man will be fine.

  2. i would say you should take him to see Iron Man . it is a really good movie . there are not any bad parts of the movie . my cousin is 7 years old and he went to see Iron Man . he really liked the movie . i hope this helps :] & i hope your son will like watching Iron Man .

  3. its fine. we took my 4 year old brother to go see it.

your only problem will be that it is a long movie, and when you watch it in the theaters, he can't bee as disruptive as when you watch it at home.... Make sure that he has a long enough attention span that he isn't going to annoy the other theater patrons.

  4. Oh my god are you serious. I know he is only 7 but you can't shelter him from the world it won't do any good. I'm sure he goes to school and the kids there definitly watch cartoons. He can't watch cartoon network or the disney channel wow!

  5. I think it's odd you'd let him see Jurassic Park (PG 13) but not watch the some of Disney Channel or Cartoon Network!.  Anyways, yes Iron Man is ok for kids!

  6. ironman was a family movie. my liltle brother was with us when we went to go see it and hes 9. i think itll be ok. (:

  7. That depends upon the 7 year old.  YOU are your child's parent YOU should know whether YOUR child should see this movie or not.

  8. yea theres not anything a 7 year old shouldnt see my friends went with his 5 year old brother and they  loved it

so yes you dont have to worry about anything bad in it

take hiim to see it he will love it

  9. No. It's rated PG-13 for a reason.

  10. Under no circumstances would I take a 7-year-old to see this film and I wouldn't recommend you do so either. I can't believe so many people suggested you take your child to see this movie. Heck, I can't believe you let him see Jurassic Park (in the theater?). Iron Man is rated PG-13 and there is a lot of gun violence. There are also lots of themes that are only appropriate for adults. It's not a gory movie, but dozens of people are killed. One of the worst episodes of violence shows a Humvee being destroyed by an IED and subsequently several airmen being killed as they move to secure a perimeter to protect Tony Stark, the film's protagonist. It is eerily reminiscent of what is happening to our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq and quite disturbing. Several terrorists are killed on screen, too. The film's lead antagonist orders the execution of several terrorists, which is carried out off screen but you understand what is going on. This is a violent film and it is not appropriate for children under ten.

I've seen it three times and I love the movie, but I object to parents who take their children to see films like this, especially at the theaters where the young children too often disturb the viewing for adults. The last time I went to see the film, I complained to the management because a mom brought her two girls with her (one couldn't have been more than four years old and the other was probably six). They talked incessantly throughout the movie despite me turning to her and giving her the evil eye. Besides, you don't have the opportunity to put the violence in proper context at a theater without disturbing others. Look, if you want your child to see this film, wait until it comes out on DVD and watch it with him in your home, that way you can discuss the violence with him.

Parents today are far too permissive. I wasn't allowed to watch R-rated movies until I turned 18. There weren't any PG-13-rated films then, but I'm sure my parents would have set limits on me viewing them.

Here is a link to Movie Mom's review of the film (she, too, does not recommend this film for children under 10):
