I am currently on job seekers allowance and have been offered an almost free AAT course (accountancy). It will take up to 1 year to finish it. I used to work as a Accounts Assistant but with no qualification or experience. It was more administration job than accounts. Would you take 1 year of work to study? Will it help me to find a better job in future. I am 33 by the way. thank you.

  1. Yes. I think concentrating on your study is so important and work can sometimes take up too much of your time. My boyfriend has just quit his job so he can concentrate on his course. But if you need the money then try to do it at home or nights.

  2. "job seekers allowance"= unemployment?

Why can't you work and take the course? I wouldn't because I couldn't pay my bills for very long without working. How are you going to continue seeking benefits if you can't go out and look for a job once you start? If you can go out and look, then you have time to get at least a part-time job.

If there was really no way to work and go to school, I would take out a student loan and go to school and try to find any work I could in the meantime.

  3. Erm, you are not working now - you are unemployed - so what is it that you are taking a year off from?
