  1. Depends entirely on how much your bike is worth (monetarily and sentimentaly). Odds are that if you're just talking about locking your bike up on campus, at work, etc. and that your bike is just used for mild commuting then almost any kind of lock will do. Generally someone looking to steal a bike in those locations is just going to grab whichever bike doesn't have a lock on it at all. If you do have a nice bike that is left locked up for long periods of time, a good rule of thumb is to have a lock that costs 10-15% of what the bike cost. For any bike over probably $500, you should consider keeping it inside. I personally have never put a lock on my bike, a 2007 Cervelo Dual, but thats because it's either in my house, in my car, or I'm riding it.

  2. Yes but then I'd trust an old fashioned padlock and chain. If a bike is chained up to something it isn't likely to get stolen. Having said that none of my bikes are top of the range and if they were perhaps I'd think differently.

  3. Your bike - Yes

My bikes - No, definitely not.
