like, okay, the customers won't see the cook, just the food.

but what would you think if you were a restaurant owner and someone with piercings would like to be hired in your kitchen?

  1. oh please, it is only piercing. Come on man, In kitchen, what matter most is the hygiene and food. The customer ain't gonna look at you unless you are going to be a professional cook . That will be a different story.

  2. It completely depends on where the piercings are.   I have worked with plenty of accessorized cooks and the only thing that really bugged me was an 18 yo girl with a tongue baton.  She would play with it all day and was a total slacker.

But if she had just kept it in her mouth instead of sticking her tongue out all day with it, I prob would of had a problem with it.

But the ear stretching thing is still icky, especially when it's bigger than an 1"

My brother almost didn't hired as a cook because he had a pierced earlobe, but that was over 20 years ago.

Home Depot, Applebees and many other chain stores have strict policies about piercing and even about how often you shave.  But would you really want to work for those facists anyways?

  3. I was a manger at a restaurant who had one cook with multiple piercings and tattoos.  He was reliable, dependable, a hard worker and a great team player.  He got along with everyone there and could always be counted on.  Now, for what went wrong:  When hired he had multiple body arts done that could not be seen when wearing the uniform so it wasn't an issue.  He had his tongue pierced, his lip pierced, and an eyebrow.  Within a few months of employment, he got a face tattoo and a cheek pierced.  About a month later,he showed up with EVIL written across his knuckles on one hand and GOOD across the other.  He also got a dragon claw tattooed on his face to look like it was clawing out his eye ball.  A few weeks later, he showed up with a swastika on his neck in which he was terminated for.  He now works as an apprentice at a tattoo parlor.

So, use your best judgment, don't let piercings and tattoos scare you aways from hiring people, but if you do hire someone with piercings and tattoos let them know of the limitations up front (i.e. no facial or discriminatory tattoos).

  4. Depends what kind of piercings they have!

I have two in left ear and one in right, im not g*y just a bit metrosexual haha and im trusted as an account executive for a big bank! haha!

If he has like nose, tongue, lip, cheek eyebrow ears. Then Go to his references and ask them if he is from h***s kitchen!

  5. If you can cook, thats all that matters.  Just make sure no jewelry accidentally falls off on the food you are preparing.  Most foodservice kitchens do have rules on how much jewelry you can wear...  if its more than just on the ears, you may have to remove them before working.

This is more like a judgemental question.  If you are a good person, it doesn't matter if you have piercings or tattoos.

  6. I would think nothing, and if I did what would it be? I really see no reason to doubt their skills professionally or qualities personally. Please explain your thoughts I'm curious to know what youre thinking.

  7. The fact I have tattoos does not mean I can not do my job as well as or better than people without tattoos.  In fact, I have tattoos and assure you I can do my job better than most people without.

The difference between people with tattoos and those without is those with do not care if you do not have them.

This was the general line I just gave to my most recent firm prior to being hired.  My neck is tattooed all sides - in a bit my throat will be done.  Discrimination is not a good thing.  Insert the word piercing over the word tattoo.....  Most understand it.

  8. Your piercings will not be a problem for most kitchens.  I've worked with many a pierced chef!  The only time it will be an issue is in an open kitchen.  This is where there is no wall between the cooks and the patrons.  It can be a huge pain to work in one because you need to watch your language and if the dining room is dark you are always "on stage".  It feels like you are working in a fish bowl!

If you are thinking about cooking as a profession, get a job in a resturaunt.  You'll find many pierced and tattoed co-workers as the kitchen has always been a haven for individuals who don't follow the norm.

    Good Luck!!!

  9. Ask for a sample

  10. As opposed to a microwave?  What do piercings have to do with skill?

  11. My opinion is that if you are a skilled chef then it really does not matter to me whether you have piercings or not.  You would have gone thru your trial and errors on knowing what manner a chef is to have and that has nothing to do with the piercings.

If I was a Restaurant Manager and opened my own place, having a top chef would be my first priority, having one with piercings is all the better.

Follow your Dreams ......... No one can make them happen but You, but there are plenty of people who will try and stop you...

    Good Luck !
