Question:

Would you use a pack n play bassinett for a newborn?

Just wondering. I work with a girl who is going to have a baby in less than a month and she said she doesn't plan on buying a bassinett, just plans on using the bassinett that comes with the pack n play for a couple of weeks. Is that safe? I remember using it overnight at my inlaws, but long term? I know, this is NONE of my business. This is really more of a technical question about pack n plays. I do not plan on saying anything to her.

  1. Yes, it's safe. I am using the Pack 'N Play as a bassinet for my little one until he outgrows it...then we will switch to a crib. It also saves on space for people not wanting a bassinet (which they outgrow fairly quickly), a Pack 'N Play (double use bassinet AND playard), and a crib at the same time?

  2. Yeah why not I know a LOT of people that use a pack n play until the baby was to big to fit in it and then on into a big kid bed I don't see anything wrong with it : )

  3. We have a pack and play and never used the bassinett part of it...it just didn't seem sturdy enough. Instead we would just lay Ian in the bottom of the actual pack and play for naps in the living room when he was new born....it was in the living room bc we had huge picture windows and he was jaundiced, but anway...it just didn't seem safe so we used the actual pack n play with out the bassinett for his naps. Actually...I'm pretty sure our instructions said something about the bassinett was not for long term sleeping arrangements or something like that if I remember correctly.

  4. Its completely safe, I used it for my first child for about 3-4 months until she was big enough for her crib.

  5. That was the only thing I used for my son until he was about 5 or 6 months old (because he was a little more than 15 pounds and that's the weight limit for the bassinet part). Then I took the bassinet down and just made it like a regular play pen and he still sleeps in it and he's 8 months old now.

  6. Ours has been using it in the living room since she was born.  She is 6 weeks. It appears to be plenty sturdy enough.  I have thought that it is a little big on occasion just for her comfort but I'm not concerned that it is unsafe.

  7. Yes it is safe. I have been using my pack and play with the bassinet since my daughter was born. She is four months now. I plan on moving her to her crib when she is six months. The pack and play acts a bassinet and a changing table so it is very convenient to have in our room.

  8. I used one and found it great. I had a regular bassinet but my girl would not sleep in it. I found the pack n play really suited our needs, had no safety issues and was a great way to have her in beside my bed for the first while. We were waiting for our cousins boy to out grow his crib because we were getting it then so it was a good solution for us

  9. We used one for the first 9 weeks then we transitioned our daughter into her crib.  I think it was safe enough, but she was so restless and it made a rather loud crinkly noise, so none of us were sleeping good.  Turns out she slept better in her crib anyways.  So, is it safe - I would say yes :)  But maybe not as comfortable as the alternatives.

  10. Yeah I used one for a few days before we just started using the crib. It's totally safe. I didn't want to register for a bassinet because I felt like it was another expensive item that would be useless in a month or two. Actually the more expensive, nicer pack and plays are really super safe and have all kinds of great features and it;s a better investment over the long term. But it's good that you are looking out for your friend.
