  1. Creationism should be taught alongside evolution, only because it is up to YOU to decide what you beleive.  It is us as Americans, I don't know how many times I have to say this - but it's the person on the inside, how do you feel?

  2. Since i don't believe in religion and if my daughter or son came home and told me that their teacher was talking about creationism i would be really POed...leave that to the Sunday school class not the public school system

  3. Yes, but only because I think it would help our students realize that nothing in the world of science is actually proven.  Like all scientific theories, evolution is nothing more than a best guess, and it meshes with modern scientific protocols much easier than creationism (which I personally believe is BS), but neither of them have been proven or disproven.

There are competing theories out there for just about everything we think is "proven", and I think kids should be learning that everything we know is based on the assumption that other things we know are correct.  Evolution is no different from anything else, and if somebody wants to teach both theories, I say let them.

  4. I usually do not vote based on single issues but this would that would be it - or against in this case.

It does not show "both" sides. There are many different religions with different creation stories but Creationism only teaches one. Teaching that in public school is directly promoting religion.

Evolution is based on the best scientific evidence.  No more no less.

Any non-scientific intrepertation does not belong in any public school.

Combine that with her extreme pro-life and anti-environment stances there is no way I would ever vote for her or her on a ticket no matter who was the lead name.

  5. I don't know for a fact whether or not she actually would advocate that.

And normally no I wouldn't.  But there are a lot of things I like about this candidate.  You take the bad with the good.

  6. No I would not. Science is universal. It is not distinguished by cultural or religious dogma. Creationism is. Why should the Judeo Christian version of religion be taught alongside science? Why not then, teach the Native American version of creation. Why not teach creationism according to Hindu belief as well? What makes Sarah Palin's belief (and many others) more true than ANY other religion and why aren't (according to her logic) all of the other views to be taught as well? answer: it would make an absolute mockery of science.

Science (from the Latin scientia, meaning "knowledge" or "to know") is the effort to discover, and increase human understanding of how the physical world works. Through controlled methods, scientists use observable physical evidence of natural phenomena to collect data, and analyze this information to explain what and how things work. Such methods include experimentation that tries to simulate natural phenomena under controlled conditions and thought experiments. Knowledge in science is gained through research.

A religion is a set of tenets and practices, often centered upon specific supernatural and moral claims about reality, the cosmos, and human nature, and often codified as prayer, ritual, or religious law. Religion also encompasses ancestral or cultural traditions, writings, history, and mythology, as well as personal faith and religious experience. The term "religion" refers to both the personal practices related to communal faith and to group rituals and communication stemming from shared conviction.

  7. On April first I gave my science class a lesson how evil spirits are the cause of illness.  I put together a several pages of 'offical' looking 'proof' and flashed it on the overhead projector.  I showed the kids some 'witch doctor' stuff and used quotes from a made up 'religion'.  Some of the kids looked puzzled and others more or less accepted the information given as true.  April Fool!  The point here is that you can teach anything you want as 'true' as long as the person teaching is a trusted individual.  Basically Creationism is con taught by people who have a good thing going and don't want to lose it.  I'm sure some of these Jesus freaks do believe the nonsense that they insist is 'revealed truth', bur believing you're not wrong isn't the same as being right.  Even the the Catholic Church now teaches evolution is the best explaination for life on earth.....the fundies are losing ground, but they don't intend to go out without a fight.  The answer to your question is that I'd never consider a person who believes nonsense to be a viable leader.  They may be nice people and mean well, but like the witch doctors they're misguided, foolish and in this day and age dangerous!

  8. Actually it's only fair, they want us to recognize all forms of religion and all points of view and when you consider the sheer numbers of christian folk in this country why should we feel free to offend them when we bend over backwards to include muslims, buhdist and wickens?.

    And I'am so voting McCain / Palin, he's a patriot and she's awesome !!

  9. Of course I would.  Can those that espouse the evolution theory disprove the creation theory?  Understand that evolution is just a theory, albeit one based on science.  Why should one theory be discounted while another embraced?

Prove creation didn't happen, then you can dismiss it.  I'm thinking that you can't!

  10. Nothing wrong with that, or our next Vice President Sarah Palin!

    NOBamaNOBiden08!

Edit: To all you morally decayed people who fight the belief, love, or teaching of God. I will pray for you. You are the reason we need people like John McCain and Sarah Palin in office. You are the product of our society and it's rapid decay!

  11. Evolution is not a "true" science, it is just a theory, same as creationism. Both should be taught.

  12. no i would not.  that's left for the individual to decide for themselves.  schools are to present factual information, children eat up and believe what their teachers say.  creationism cannot be backed by facts, artifacts, and the science that is behind evolution.  how do you even explain creationism without involving religion?

so no i will not be voting for palin because of her stance on this among many other issues

  13. Actually she said it should be discussed in schools.  She didn't say "taught."  All we can do is hope she doesn't become VP, or worse, P.

  14. I don't think that creationism should be taught, but I think evolution should be highlighted as a theory.

  15. I'm sorry I didn't realize they found the missing link.

Human evolution is still also considered a theory.

Religion is not a myth it's an ideology & it's amazing how many of the predictions of the bible have actually came to pass.

  16. I actually have no problem with that since I went to a school that did teach both though I believed in the evolution side rather than the creationism thing. But no I wouldn't vote for Palin because I disagree on some of her other politics.

  17. Since evolution is not a prooven fact why isn`t creationism taught in our schools alongside with it and let students explore both issues, as they are encouraged to explore other subjects. The current situation is just creating a right or wrong issue instead of allowing students to explore both with an open mind. Why would I vote for McCain-Palin? Because the 143-day Senator from Illinoiss, Barack Hussein Obama the ll is a liar and an opportunistic pretender. Just because you believe that religion is a myth, your believe should not be imposed on everyone. We have the freedom to believe in a religion and you have the freedom not to bellieve in religions. Your attitude is arrogant, it is also extensively practised in communist regimes, perhaps you would love a communist regime but that doesn`t mean that the rest of us would.

  18. Creationism is not a legitimate and viable scientific alternative evolution and should not be included in the curriculum of a public school system, particularly in a science classroom.

By protecting the right and ability of students to learn science that is not molded by religious doctrine, we best fulfill the promise and purpose of the First Amendment.

The theory of evolution is a fundamental concept of biology and it is supported by the overwhelming weight of scientific evidence. Simply eliminating evolution from the public school curriculum in order to ease community tensions would do a great disservice to all students.

I'm not voting for McCain/Palin for many reasons.  This is just one in the line-up.

  19. Hey my kids go to Catholic school cause I want them to have a somewhat religious education....but if people were as mentally insane as they are in the USA I would send them to an ATHEIST school if there was such a thing!!!!

That c**p does NOT belong in Public schools.  Have private schools if you are so inclined and do not impose that c**p on people who don't want it.

  20. No.  This is the 21st century.  We need leaders who support science.

  21. Absolutely, I was raised, and I raised my own children, to be exposed to all sorts of things.

We were allowed to learn about everything so that we could make our own choices.

Why would you cut your child off from some opinion simply because you personally don't agree with it?

If a person believes in creationism, shouldn't their children also learn about Darwin and evolution?

Being educated means learning about everything, not just what you agree with.

  22. Yup, creationism should be taught alongside evolution in science classes.  Both are THEORIES, not hard fast laws of science.  There is evidence to support both sides of the issue.  Evolution has been observed over the last hundreds of yrs, but creationism has physical evidence in rock layers & scientists are discovering that the Bible isn't just a "myth."

Teach children HOW to think, not WHAT to think & let them make up their own minds.  Real education is about looking at the pros & cons of an issue & listening to both sides before coming to a conclusion based on the arguments & your own beliefs.

I still haven't made up my mind between John McCain & Bob Barr, but I am leaning McCain for now.  Sorry to burst your bubble!!

  23. So in yor world pro choice only applies to killing babies

I got a news flash for you kid

    Evolution is an unproven THEORY

In my mind it makes more sense

But thankfully we don't live in a country where the opinion of one forces others to change the way they raise their children

  24. but we also need to teach the hindu creation myth, to be fair, you know? oh, and the scientology creation myth too, can't forget that one. oh, and my uncle wrote a book about how an old woman made the earth out of a giant cosmic meatball, so we should probably throw in that one too.

  25. Ah, another one who follows evolution blindly.

Yes, I will vote for someone who supports teaching scientific theories in school.

Beware the sound of one hand clapping.  The theory of evolution has just as much evidence opposing it as it has supporting it.  You evidently refuse to see that evidence.   Following something blindly is known as faith.  Faith is the key characteristic of religion.  At least Christians admit that Christianity is their religion.

I'm not saying that you have to have to accept intelligent design as the answer over evolution, but in order for objective scientists to take you seriously, you have to examine both and make your own decision.

If you do research both, and decide that you favor evolution, that's great.  At least you'll have made an informed decision.

Yes, religion is not science, but science is science.  You can't believe what you're hearing because you've chosen evolution as your religion.  And that's fine, but you owe it to admit to yourself that it's your religion until after you've examined the other side of the coin.

Evolutionists believe that crystals randomly created life.  How is that more believable than the theory that an intelligent being intentionally created life?

  26. Yes, evolution is a theory!  You were not there to see it and no one was.  I would welcome it!  And yes, I would vote for someone who wants it to be done!

  27. The Christian Bible is easily the most influencial written work in the history of mankind, so it certainly has a place as one of the great books in any liberal arts curriculum.

  28. OK, everyone, please listen.  I have not yet committed to enforcing creationism in the evolution curriculum yet.  After reminiscing as I looked through pictures of my former boyfriend, who was coincidentally a monkey (and a very spiritual one at that), I've decided that maybe there is something to the whole big bang.... It's only time now before he starts blabbering to the press about all those funny cigarettes we smoked.

  29. Of course!! People should be thought ALL stances and theories about creation, not only one. People should be informed so they can make choices and  develop thought skills.

  30. I won't be voting for McPlain, or Palin should she ever run as the head of the ticket.

Creationism should not be taught in science class, because it has nothing to do with science.  It belongs in a theology/world religion/mythology class, not a science lab.  It's completely inappropriate.

  31. Yes, I think both sides should always be examined rather than just believe anything I'm told.  Kinda like YA.  People post, I decide.
