Here we go again with the silly questions on whether fighting should be banned or not.

Can you give me ONE reason why this would be a good idea to outlaw fighting?

  1. yes

  2. Obviously I would still watch it... At the end of the day we watch the hockey for the game not cause of the fighting. I'm not saying I don't like fighting, I actually think it gives hockey that intensity but what I am saying is if it stopped that is no reason to stop watching the game!

Hockey is not all about fighting!

For the one reason, I guess I could say there would be a few less injuries to players!

    Just my opinion!

  3. h**l YEAH! The fights are a good part of it but the game itself is better

  4. yes but i wouldn't enjoy it as much

  5. I would still watch it..

    Wouldn't be as enjoyable though.

  6. Fighting brings nothing to the great game of hockey.

If it were banned the game would survive and flourish. The game is better without the Laraques, Parros', Brashears, and even dare I say it the Belaks.

These people would not have a job in hockey without fighting.

For the Montreal Canadiens who are happy with signing Georges Laraque. Without fighting, Laraque wouldn't be on your team and his ice time would go to Chipchura or Latendresse, what is better?

  7. No way! That's called figure skating!

  8. Course I would, the fights don't make the game. They're just part of it.

    Vote for Sammy.

  9. I'll still watch . There aren't fights every gm anyway

One reason: Ever hear of Kermit Washington or Rudy Tomjanovich. In a game in 1977 between Washington's Lakers and Rudy's Rockets a fight broke out between Kareem Abdul Jabar and one of the Rockets. Washington ran in and a brawl broke out. Rudy T ran in to break it up but Washington thinking he was attacking trned and belted him. The blow shattered the bones of Tomjanovich's jaw and face and inflicted life-threatening head injuries,

However given the greater size of athletes in the NBA and the fact it's harder to get leverage in a hockey fight makes me think banning hockey is definatly  unneccesary

Sorry I got this idea caught in my mind be cause I'm in the middle of a book on it ("The Punch")

  10. yeah

  11. I'd still watch but it just wouldn't be the same.

One good reason:  um...maybe they could increase the salary cap with all that money they'd be saving on bandages and stitching thread.

  12. I would still watch that would help some of the weaker teams

  13. You bloodthirsty creeeps will always be cheering for someone to get their face beaten in. You people have cold, dark hearts. What is it you enjoy about watching someone getting beaten bloody? I realize some people enjoy violence, sad fact of life. Even the women seem to enjoy the violence, granted they are totally void of any feminity.

  14. Banning fighting only caters to the non hockey fan. If hockey wants to maintain its place in sports then fighting MUST continue to have a place in the game. As many have mentioned , would we rather see some of the stickwork which with the instigator rule has already increased? Look at the Stanley Cup when Roberts intentionally went to the head of Franzen knowing he was recovering from a concussion. That would become the norm if fighting were banned, the Wings chose not to retaliate then but hold the option of dealing with Roberts down the road. And isnt it interesting that while MMA is gaining popularity there is still a call to end the fighting in hockey? Fighting in MMA is intended to inflict heavy damage and hurt people, in hockey it is used to protect players or change the tempo.....both combatants have a mutual respect and honor the intent of the fight. Maybe the time has come to eliminate the pure "goon" type player who offers nothing but the ability to fight, there are plenty of middle to decent heavyweight guys that the pure goon isnt really required anymore and some teams have shown the ability to play very physical and tough without a lot of glove dropping (see Red Wings....Pitts thought they could beat them up and ended up getting their rears handed to them in the physical part, along with most everything else).

If we cater to the ignorance of the non hockey fan then our sport is doomed to that of a cult sport with no mainstream interest....not good. s***w the haters, they can watch figure skating, I want more Gordie Howe Hat Tricks!

  15. no

  16. Sure, it is still ice skating to score points and win; isn't it?

This way all the fights will be in the bars and will be broadcast on ET!.

  17. Yea but it would be boring

  18. I wish someone would actually do a study to see the number of players injured by "accidental" high sticks on teams with a good enforcer vs. players injured by same on teams without an enforcer.

Like Kid Chalene (Marlon Brando) said " trouble just naturally stays away when there's a gunfighter around".

Something about the possibility of having your nose relocated that helps you remember to keep your stick on the ice.

Since your question is, would you still watch ...? Yeah, I guess I would since I watch the women's games in the Olympics and I watch baseball once in a while. So yes, but under protest.

  19. I wonder what the players would do if they banned fighting? I am sure many would be for it, and some against it!

But I guarantee you this... IF Brashear took a run at SID knowing he wouldnt have to face another Enforcer.. someone from PITT would take a run at him..... the end result is worse than a fight, injured players! You would have cheap shots all over the place and injured players. And suspensions galore! I like it the way it is now... do something cheap on the ice and face the music on the ice!

  20. If fighting was banned , I would still watch. There would still be crashes and body contact and scrapping in the corners. Body contact will happen no matter what in the sport.I do feel also that you would most likely see more stick work and stick swinging incidents without fighting. There would probably be more injuries from that.

But I can say there is not one good reason to ban fighting at all.

  21. I would still watch.  I love the game.  No amateur level of the game allows fighting and I still enjoy it. I would however, not be pleased.  I would also bet you would see an increase in stick-related penalties.  You have to be able to vent frustration, enforce, and protect - Fighting is how that happens.

  22. KHL, here I come!!

  23. Yeah I'd still watch (I watch Olympic hockey).  I'd probably yell and jump less though.

  24. fighting is a part of the game, absolutely no reason to ban it, if they banned it, it would take a lot of respect out of the game cause then they couldnt settle their disputes with a fight

  25. I'd still watch, but it wouldn't be nearly as good. Fighting has always been part of the game, and banning it will only increase cheap shots with sticks and more blindside hits as retaliation. I worked for the Stars for 4 seasons, and I know the guys had a lot of respect for the enforcers on the other teams. I don't want to see career- or God forbid- life ending injuries from the cheap shots when a good old tussle would have solved the problem.

  26. I would definitely watch hockey. I don't really like fighting myself. But sometimes fighting can lighten up your mood or bring the players back into the game. It gets everyone energized.

  27. yes i would still watch it because hockey is not all about the hits. ut i love watching hockey fights it makes u jump out of your seat and get u so energized and pumped up.

  28. I would definitely still watch. But I would be very disappointed and probably no longer attend games just to teach MR. BETTMAN a lesson.

  29. i would, but how would they stop it, you can still fight, but if they had fines for fighting etc. etc.

i would... be very mad, id have to roundhouse kick somone in the face

  30. I'd still watch hockey. Fighting isn't my favorite thing about the sport anyways...

Plus, if fighting is banned from hockey, people will learn real fast how dirty the game gets.
