Would you write him up?

I have a volunteer that finds places to hide so that he doesn't have to do any thing. My opinion is then go home.

I have asked him to help with special projects, he says yes and doesn't show up.

He is scheduled for a certain day and doesn't show up, usually comes in another day and time.

People ask him to do things and he passes the chore off to some one else.

When I am not there the staff tells me he sits in my office doing nothing with the air conditioning on.

Would you write him up?

I recently promoted him to give him more responsibility and he has gotten so much more lazy I want to take it back. What do you think???

  1. I would just tell him that his promotion was unmerited, sit him down, and talk with him. Ask him if he is really commited to his responsibilities, and if he really wants to volunteer his services to your shelter.

You can see the look on his face when he answers. If he turns away when he answers, he's really not interested in volunteering.

If he's there for some community service effort, then contact his case worker.

If he really doesn't want to be there, just tell him to find someplace to spend his spare time.

  2. You may want to speak with him, reminding him of why the promotion was earned & granted.  If his performance was exemplary before & substandard after, make both that comparison and the talk being a warning, crystal clear.

  3. I agree....Fire him.

  4. Fire him.
