Question:

Wouldn't God want us to be loving and accepting?

I just posted a question in the "Religion and Spirituality" section asking for opinions on whether sexual orientation is something that can be changed:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AraU41EYP6zR7o8Tk1NN8jrsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20080824152207AAcaUCs

Why is it that all of the answers from religious people are anti-g*y? If they are living their lives to please God, why are they not being loving and accepting towards all people? Is that not what God wants?

  1. Adam and Eve

Michelangelo's Creation of Adam, from the Sistine Chapel. For other uses, see Adam and Eve (disambiguation).

Adam (Hebrew: אָדָם‎, ʼĀḏām, "dust; man; mankind"; Arabic: آدم‎, ʼĀdam; Ge'ez: አዳ) and Eve (Hebrew: חַוָּה‎, Ḥawwā, "living one"; Arabic: حواء‎, Ḥawwāʼ; Ge'ez: ሕይዋን, Hiywan) were, according to the religious books the Torah, the Bible and the Qur'an, the first man and woman created by God.

Adam and Eve appear in many books besides Genesis, such as the Quran, the Life of Adam and Eve, the Talmud, and Gnostic texts. Jewish tradition sometimes includes reference to other wives of Adam's. Paul of Tarsus presents Jesus Christ as a "new Adam" who brings life instead of death. The serpent of the Garden of Eden in Christian theology represents Satan, and the Fall (the eating of the forbidden fruit) establishes original sin. Muslims regard Adam as the first prophet.

The biblical story of Adam and Eve is told in the book of Genesis, chapters 1, 2 and 3, with some additional elements in chapters 4 and 5.

In Genesis 1 God creates humans "male and female" in His image, and gives them dominion over the living things He has created, and commands them to "be fruitful and multiply."

Genesis 2 opens with God fashioning a man from the dust and blowing life into his nostrils. God plants a garden (the Garden of Eden) and sets the man there, "to work it and watch over it," permitting him to eat of all the trees in the garden except the tree of knowledge of good and evil, "for on the day you eat of it you shall surely die." Then God creates the animals, attempting to find a help-mate for the man; but none of the animals are satisfactory, and so God causes the man to sleep, and creates a woman from his rib. The man names her "Woman" (Heb. ishshah), "for this one was taken from a man" (Heb. ish). "On account of this a man leaves his father and his mother and clings to his woman." Genesis 2 ends with the note that the man and woman were naked, and were not ashamed.

Just a gently reminder so that the Belivers know where we came from+  Amen.

So, regarding "g**s" male or female.... just a gentle reminder for everyone....again I quote the Holy Bible...."Judge not and ye shall not be judged".

We have to love and respect all God's creation, the good, the bad and the ugly.

  2. I suppose. If god was real.

  3. God is a being that punishes us, that stretches us beyong our limits yet still expects us to remain faithful, who never shows up, and who (over the last 2000 years at least) hasn't shown up to remind us that he is watching. Yet he still preaches peace and love and despite the 'love thy neighbour' rule, still christians dignify their wars against the

  4. Urantia an ancient name for Earth.

"On Urantia there are forty-eight units of pattern control--trait determiners--in the s*x cells of human reproduction."

Would a cell effect our choosing? I don't know but I guess it should be looked into. Personally I would not choose other then the opposit s*x but I don't think I have the right to judge anothers choosing. To be safe it seems we should not take a firm stand on this one.

I don't know anything about s*x cells or how they work but it does say "s*x determiners" and this seems like it would support the claim of what many say they feel compeled to do what their doing, Choice again but not as free as I thought before.

The other choosing would of course be celibacy, to many that is not a choice.

  5. no. god wants us petty, spiteful and fractional, and boy are we doing a good job! so you happen to love another human being (man, woman, whatever). you MUST be evil.  see i told you, you are going against gods plan to do harm to your fellow man, you bad bad person.

  6. All in all, this appears to be a question that rightfully belongs in R&S.

Having said that, it is hard to get a straight answer in that fundamentalist muck, as others have said.

With that in mind, I will answer it as if it were in R&S and not challenge your basic assumptions.

Having said that, if you are presupposing an intelligent creator-being who consciously determines your birth, genetic makeup, etc, it appears that there is much individual variance between individuals, which could then be interpreted as a conscious choice by a Creator for whatever reason for there to be a certain degree of variance within the human species.

HAving said that even , there are so many questions within your question it will need to be dissected. 1o Q-wouldn't God..... depends. If you believe in an omniscient God, then He would be want us to be what we are. Some of us loving, etc, some of us not. Make sense?

#2- sexual orientation can be changed.? My pet theory is that there are 2 basic drivers of sexual orientation. Nature and nurture. There is a center in the brain that governs gender identity. This doesn't appear to be changeable short of brain alteration. Behavioral/learned behaviors of sexual identity/preference of course can be changed if you are willing and/or motivated to for whatever reason.

#3 anti-g*y. thats just too gross of an accusation, perhaps you are reffering to mainstream christianity which teaches that its morally wrong to be homosexual.  perhaps your question itself provokes anti g*y thinkers to respond more than the GP....dunno.

#4, #5, what do you want to hear here? because many people are hypocritical?  too much here to respond. refer to my answer to #1 and #2, forget other people.

    hope this helps

  7. Yes! god forgives all for their sins !!!! God is the ultimate of love & acceptance!

  8. Man, you missed the point of God entirely.

"Divide and conquer" is the motto.

  9. a lot of pple are hypocrites.

  10. Do you accept a behavior that you believe is harmful?

  11. Accepting a person is not the same as accepting their actions, or ideas.

Loving a person means rejecting their actions and ideas that are self (or others) destructive.  If you love someone who is addicted to drugs or alcohol, you do not buy them a drink or give them money to purchase drugs.  If you love someone who is struggling with heterosexual lust, you do not help them put themselves in situations where they may give in to temptation.  Why then should people who struggle with homosexual lust be treated differently by those who love them?

  12. because unfortuantely, homosexuality is a sin. now, i agree, people go around it the wrong way. its a sin, but so is lying, and cheating, and all that, and theyre just as bad. i agree, we shoudlnt judge anyone. its not our place, its gods. we should try to encourage them on the right path, but thats it.

  13. Many of the people who post in that section are fundies. Don't listen to what they have to say. They don't seem to collectively have 2 brain cells to rub together.
