Question:

Wouldn't a "fairing saver" be more likely to send you "head over heels" in a high speed motorcycle crash?

a few years ago i had a really bad wreck on a Suzuki GSX-R 600 [without fairing savers] that involved me losing control around a curve and dropping down the side of the bike and sliding down the asphalt for a good while before finally kicking myself out from underneath the bike.

i understand the benefit of having a fairing saver if you lay it down in your driveway at a stand-still, but if you dropped the bike down on it's side at a high speed, wouldn't that be more likely to cause it to flip over because of it's inability to lay flat against the road and keep sliding?

please only answer if you have experience with bikes.

i always select a best answer.

  1. The best crash is the one that doesn't happen. The easiest way to prevent the crash is to SLOW DOWN!

  2. umm yea but if u want an explantion just slow down a little bit so you can live longer

  3. If the bike slides, It slides. If it flips, It flips..... Crashes are uncontrollable at high speeds. You never know what is going to happen till it's all over.... If your alive. I have been in crashes with a car and my bike, I have put my bike in a ditch, I have even had a seagull slam into my helmet at 65mph and almost knock me off my bike. If your riding and all of a sudden "crash" and you have a reaction to bail off the bike to save yourself, then do it and let that bike go. It does not matter what you put on your bike....Carnage is going to happen. Your bike is replaceable and parts can be fixed. But, your life and other peoples lives are not replaceable..... Just slow down a little bit so you can live longer.

  4. Never used "fairing savers" but I always fit "crash bungs".

The fit into main frame bolt holes to save the frame. If the fairing get ruined, so what, they are cheaper then a new frame!

My true advice is not to bother riding on the road. I gave up years ago and now only ever ride at offical track days.

Loads of run off ground, air fences, free recovery (ck to pits!) and the great work of the Saint John Paramedic services!
