Wouldn't a withdrawl from Iraq show that the US has confidence in their ability to control their own country?

And by staying for another 100 years, that the US has no confidence in their ability to run their country?

Are we going to be the protector (god father) of Iraq, or the friend of Iraq?

God father's interject themselves into the business of their charges. Friends help out when needed, but otherwise stay out of their friend's business and don't question their motives.

  1. well the Iraq situation should push people to think more for who they vote for because there is nothing we can win in Iraq

even you drop a nuke and kill all Iraqis you still lose

  2. In my study of history and international affairs I've learned that what you do isn't important; what you're perceived as having done, that is important.

The U.S. can leave Iraq and spin it however they want, just as they're staying in Iraq and spinning it the way they want.  The problem is that nowadays information is too vast and too easy to come by the any government to reasonably believe that a false policy will hold its perceived legitimacy for long.

  3. In theory, yes (regarding the perception of the withdrawl). I think the two biggest problems we are facing in Iraq are economic and social. People tend to be more violent when they can't feed their children. It's funny how thriving families and full bellies calm people down. The other problem is, we are forcing democracy on a country that doesn't think that way. That's not to say that that day will never come - maybe it will, maybe it won't. But we can't force it on them if they don't want/understand it.

  4. No.  You're wrong and your logic is skewed.  I suggest you purchase a history book and read about global conflicts.  Then, if you still don't understand, ask again. ;)

btw, by touting the "100 years" democratic line, you only reveal that you haven't taken the time to listen to what McCain actually said.

  5. I agree. Considering we should have stayed in Afghanistan and never went into Iraq, a good timetable for a withdrawal is important and gives Iraqis the ability to govern on their own.

  6. Your opinion rests on the assumption that Iraq wants the US to withdraw immediately, which according to every source I have seen is not the case.

When Iraq is able to stand alone, the US will withdraw and act, as you said, like a friend.

This will be the outcome no matter whether Obama or McCain wins, so try not to swallow all of the campaign rhetoric.

Edit: I did not see the word 'immediate' in the translation.

I think it has been made pretty clear that BOTH candidates wish to withdraw once Iraq is ready to stand.

Yet only one of the candidates has held this position throughout the entire primary season. Which one was that again?
