Question:

Wouldn't gas prices be lower if we had one kind instead of regular, midgrade and premium?

Refineries would make one kind, stock one kind, ship one kind. Almost all cars on the road can adapt to one grade. High performance carsrequiring premium could go to select stations.

  1. No. I don't think so.

  2. One grade wouldn't solve some of the fuel price crisis, but ending EPA requirements for boutique blends would help lower prices some because the same fuel could be sold across the country, rather than in a certain region.  If a refinery in the Gulf goes down for maintanence, a refinery in MN could take up the slack & vice versa

  3. yes

  4. no, thats not the problem. its the falling value of the us dollar and saudia arabia doing what it wants because it can just make billions of dollars off of us and it will eventually bite us in the *** **cough cough Iran.

I might be over exaggerating but i think that it could happen which is not good. we need to stop remaining dependant on the middle east. thats why the gas prices are so high

  5. No.  Gas stations pay the same amount for all three fuel grades.  They just make a higher profit on higher octane fuel.

  6. Sorry but it wouldn't help. Gasoline is not the only product made by crude oil, not by a long shot. Refineries around the US are in the red this year, the price gouging is coming from the crude oil suppliers.

  7. No it will not..there is increasing demands for energy (the main source is oil) from industry, households and transport cars and this is predicted to increase so it is a matter of demands and supply…..

  8. It would help, but It is not the different octanes that cause the price to increase so much, it is the "Boutique" mixtures causes by different "Environmentalist" org. and local governments demanding for their areas.

  9. No, because then the high-performance cars would use the lower octane gas and get way less fuel economy than they should.
