Wouldn't having a happy song in our head all day be better than thinking about all of life's problems?

Isn't having a joyful tune in your head all day much better--and more peaceful-- than worrying and thinking about all of life's problems, like paying bills, the economy, politics, war, rising gas prices, and everything else that wrecks and racks our peace into restlessness? Wouldn't it be better to keep that enjoyable music humming over our thought patterns most of the time? If so, how often should a person use this technique? Please comment.

  1. Deal with everyday things and keep a tune in  your head.  As long as your working forward thats all should matter to you.

Leave everything in a better condition than you have found it and you will be just fine to sing any tune you desire.

  2. I think that sometimes, that's a perfectly good option.  It's only really a problem if you begin to deny reality, and don't get the bills paid or a real problem solved.

For example, I used to commute about 45 minutes or more each way to work.  I'd see people freaking out in the car, running late, weaving in and out of traffic, and plenty of low-level road rage.  Now, I despised the commute, but I also realized there really wasn't anything I could do about it.  For the short term, I knew that since I was already on the road, I'd get there when I got there.  Long term, I knew that I had to continue that commute for a while, so there was no point in stressing about it there, either.  In other words, I virtually sang a happy tune since there was nothing that I could do to impact the problem at that point in time.  I figured I might as well choose to be happy!

I think that as long as you are still living in the real world, there's nothing wrong with choosing happiness.  I think that people often dwell upon negative or worrisome things that they cannot change.  I prefer to make the changes or impacts that I can (large or small scale, it doesn't matter, as long as I do everything within my power), and then move on.  Easier said than done sometimes, but it's my basic M.O.

  3. That, my friend, is called denial.

  4. NO! For one thing, that would get SO annoying. Also, worrying about stuff like that gets tiresome, but if no one worried about any of that stuff what would happen to the world? It would be chaos! I mean, if the leaders of the world are too busy thinking about "I'm Walking On Sunshine" to try to fix the problems in their nations. . . I don't want to know what would happen. So no, it's definitely not a good thing to ignore our problems or try to make them go away simply by not thinking about them. Not only would the world be in trouble, but so would all art forms, because many arts come to life thanks to things that "wreck and rack our peace into restlessness." And free thinking would be hard to do with lyrics and music already filling your head. You get rid of bad thoughts, and inevitably you will also get rid of good ones, no matter how happy the song.

P.S. I TOTALLY agree with Seth W and Jennifer M, too.

  5. Tra-la-la, tra-la-la,

    Tra-la-la, tra-la-la,

    Rum-tum-tiddle-um-tum.

    Tiddle-iddle, tiddle-iddle,

    Tiddle-iddle, tiddle-iddle,

    Rum-tum-tum-tiddle-um.

  6. If you never think about life's problems, how would you ever solve them?

  7. you shouldn't disappear into your head whenever bad things happen.  there is a difference between handling your affairs and harping on everything bad in the world.  what you should do is worry about the things that you can affect and be aware but not hung up on the things that you can't.  pay your bills and have a plan for life, but don't let the things that are out of your control take hold of your life.  bad things are going to happen, but they are only temporary just like good things.  be aware of whats going on, but don't let it dominate your life.  sing the happy song only when you feel that things are too much.  don't let it become a crutch.  you only take aspirin when you have a headache so only sing the song when its a last resort.

  8. Sounds great in theory, but if no-one ever thought about lifes problems, the problems would never be solved & we'd most likely be running around with our thumb up our proverbial cavity....But yes, I do block some things out with music at times, it adds a lot of happiness to my life, as I'm sure it does for lots of other people. At times it helps me solve problems that seem to great to solve at the time it appears ~ I'll go away & listen to some of my fave music, & then, when I get back to dealing with the problem, I'm more refreshed & ready to take it on & I'm in a better frame of mind to solve it.

  9. don't worry, be happy
