i'm not a native English speaker and since i started to learn i used to talk with British accents and REALLY LOVED it. but last year i went to a Canadian International school and found when i changed it into an american one it improved drastically. and it seemed a bit weird u were talking with a different accent with canadians around u. and sometimes they don't understand wut u r saying...i'd go to the states this Sept. and should i maintain the british accents?

  1. They won't care either way.  If it improves the clarity of your english, go with the American accent.  Potentially, the British accent might be considered more interesting or attractive to some people, as long as it doesn't come off as fake, like when Madonna fakes her British accent. Most people won't notice the subtle difference if your accent is even subtly foreign.

  2. no its kind of annoying, just speak it normaly if you can

  3. personally, i love english accents, but if you want to fit in then yea use american accent

  4. The funny thing about accents is you pick them up from people around you. If you do live in the states an go to an american school their is a good chance that over time you WILL lose part of your accent, its the exact same when someone from canada or US moves to another place like Australia, you automatically pick up on the speech pattern an will have that accent without fully realizing it. So feel free to try an keep your accent, but do not be overly surprised when it fades

  5. Use it if that's what you're comfortable with, no need to conform to others that can't hear past the subtleties of a few changes in pronunciations.

  6. I don't think it really matters, just use the accent that you feel more comfortable using. We had an exchange student at my old school and she'd been taught to speak English in American accent, so she used the American accent. You might find that after spending a little time in the US that your accent will change on its own. It's all down to preference really.

  7. Wouldn't matter to me. Do what feels right to your tongue.

  8. if you can make it without the british accent, you'd b e a boat load easier to understand

  9. We love the british accent!
