Question:

Wouldn't it be a great idea to update the Bible? Like Old, New, and Updated Testament for the new Millennium?

The Bible was written nearly 2000 years ago by numerous people - with divine intervention of course. However, the reality is that it is very dated and often contradictory. I think this is the reason that many interested agnostics won't (or can't) convert, myself included.

Some passages to be updated would be ones like g**s must be put to death (Leviticus 20:13), tax collectors are bad Christians (Luke 18:9-14), slaves should obey their masters (Ephesians 6:5-6), Adam was made from "dust of the ground".

I say get the best Christian astrophysicists, archaeologists, poets and sociologists together and come up with a new version that updates these things for the 21st century.

Obviously I know most Christians today don't expect their slaves to submit to them nor do they wish to put g**s to death. So why not change those passages?

That will take wind out of atheists' sails and maybe convert a few agnostics?

Oh, almost forgot the hot topic of the day. Change the creationism drivel and put in evolution and say that God brought down the meteors that killed the dinosaurs, breathed mutation into monkeys and created the laws of nature including natural selection.

  1. that's not an updated. what you want is to change the book to fit you believe. hmmm...

  2. Yes, I admit it would be nice.  For the fact God can clarify what he wants and put it in plain English.  I think there would be a lot less confusion and only one Religion.

  3. You got a clear choice:

Either a provisional, make-it-up-as-you-go-along type of god, who changes his mind the whole time. or else you have to go with stoning people to death for being g*y, for having s*x at 'that time of the month' (yes, really. Check out Leviticus) and death for all sorts of other perfectly natural and harmless acts that 'his' priests don't like.

Absolute god has to be 'take it or leave it' ; all or nothing.

Most of us, at some point, decide we'd rather leave it.

    Others fudge around and cheat.

The fundamentalists, (Christian or Muslim) are at least consistent in their stone-age hate-cult.

  4. No it wouldn't. BTW, nice screen name.

  5. i think it should stay the same because however it is worded people like yourself will take it out of context. why don't you try a NIV or CIV version. it helps with simple minds. there is nothing that i read in it that is contradictory. it has come to past and will continue to.

  6. You obviously don't have a clue...

  7. Considering people keep getting dumber in this new millennium I wouldn't want that or the Constitution to be "updated", it's like giving guns to monkeys on the premise that they'll allegedly be smart enough one day to use them safely.

  8. Seems like you're trying to change the Bible to make it what you want to be.  It doesn't work that way, though.   Once you change one thing, what's to say that you won't change something that is crucial to the faith?

For example, would you say that Jesus never was resurrected?  Perhaps you'll say that the way the DaVinci Code portrays it is truly the way it happened.  Maybe you wouldn't do that, but changing the content of the Bible sure leads people down that path.

  9. They could cut out huge swathes and replace it with, well, better stuff

  10. You can do anything you want to with it.  It is public domain.  Of course if you are like most of the mouth-breathing adolescents here, you have no idea what that means.

  11. I dont think we should update the Bible. we know that the world isn't what it was 2000 years ago. besides, there's to many people out there who like to change around the words of the Bible to serve their own purposes already.

  12. If anyone dares do like you say then let him and/or her be accursed. As the bible says:

Galatians 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

By the way: There is no such thing as a liberal Jesus, by following the person that claims that there is, you are bringing a curse upon yourself.

  13. The miracle of the Bible is that even tho its 2,000 years old, its still totally up to date.
