  1. ...well... I *think* there's some sarcasm there- making a comment about people doing stupid things they see on TV... BUT if you're not:

    No.  There's perception and reality.  You can't close your eyes and pretend things don't happen.

  3. The media needs to report the story.  It helps saves lives.  

    It would be better if the oil companies didnt raise prices because a storm might come their way.  It would also be better if gas stations didnt raise prices on gas they already purchased at a lower cost.

No, price increases are set by the oil companies, and it's not so much the approach of a storm that causes the increase, but the actual storm damage done to the refineries along the coast.  Even if the media ignored the storms, the refineries would still be damaged.  And it's not the media that tracks the storms at all, it's the government weather agencies like the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

  5. No, then people who live in storm-threatened areas would get no warning if a large storm were to come their way.
