Question:

Wouldn't it be better to have the All-Star game between the last game of the season and the Playoffs?

That way the "true" All-Stars could play. They could take a week off between the last game of the season and the first game of the playoffs to have the All-Star game. One game won't tire the fellas!!

  1. No, teams want their players to be healthy for the playoffs. October weather is pretty bad most of the time, it's cold in north cities and would mean pushing the world series further in November. I don't think many people would be into that kind of idea. Bad ratings like the pro bowl are likely if you move it into the fall.

  2. no, that's a terrible idea.  What if someone going to the playoffs got hurt in an exhibition game?  And a lot of fans lose interest because there team is out of contention at the end,   I could name more reasons but it's not worth it.

  3. The NFL has the pro-bowl at that end of the season (after playoffs) and the ratings for the pro-bowl are horrible. Mid-season is best (for marketing purposes) because everyone is highly involved in the season already, but the outcome is still very much uncertain.

Plus, October baseball is often played in sub-par weather. Do you really want to delay the playoffs an extra week and push the world series deeper into the fall? I don't think that's such a good idea.

  4. it be cool but would cause to many problems. managers would complain that players are tired for playoffs and blame it on the ASG like homerun derbys mess up peoples swing.

  5. No, that would be bad, there would be no HR Derby becuase the swings would be messed up for the playoffs

  6. I've always wanted the all-star game to be around the end. Some players I would consider all-stars at the end but not in the middle or the other way around.

I think the main reason it's in the middle is because the baseball season is so long and the players do need the break.

  7. That is the dumbest idea i have ever heard. that is 3 times as dumb as playing the all star game for home field advantage.  The all star game is an exhibition always have been and should always be (stupid bud selig is leaving a stain on baseball)  why on gods earth would GM's let their star players play an extra game after the season is over but before the playoffs started??? with how players get hurt these days : opening a knife and almost cutting your hand off (mike matheny), playing guitar hero (joel zimaya), San Diego pitcher Adam Eaton missed a 2001 start when he stabbed himself in the stomach while trying to cut the shrink-wrap off a DVD. Tom Glavine, then with the Atlanta Braves, broke a rib when he threw up an in-flight meal on an airplane.

Wade Boggs injured his back while trying to pull on cowboy boots. Colorado's Larry Walker separated his shoulder while fishing. Pitcher Carlos Perez broke his nose in a car accident - he was trying to pass the team bus at the time.

Sammy Sosa had to go on injured reserve when he hurt his back while sneezing.

Get my gist? baseball players dont need any more reasons to get hurt, especially right before the playoffs, and by the way, the all star game is fine where it is, dont mess with tradition. (BUD SELIG!!!)

  8. Yea it would because, as you said, the voters would have a full season of data to decide who they should vote for. However, the popular teams (which are going to have the most All Stars) are most likely going to be the playoff teams. The managers of those teams might not want their ace, closer, star players to play because they want a fresh and healthy team going for a World Series trophy than home field advantage. I know you can say the manager would WANT to play their guys to get the home field but come on, is that really worth it that much? I want to see it at the end too but just playing devil's advocate :)

  9. ehh it would probably be too much and I dont think the people who didnt make the playoffs would really want to

  10. No cause only a few players would rlly want home field advantage would you want to win if your team was out

  11. Yes it would, but maybe after the world series?

  12. It could, but then you have the risk of injury to players who will be playing in the playoffs. One misstep and a team's playoff chances might go down the drain. This fear would cause playoff teams to keep players out of the ASG, so it wouldn't really be an ASG at that point, but a "best of whoever didn't make the playoffs" game

and you cannot have it at the end of the year, after the World Series, because its too cold in most places, and you would only be able to play it in certain stadiums (domes, southern states, mexico??)

so i would love to see the MLB find a way for the ASG to be full of actuall all-stars, but it seems unlikely to do it any other way than the one being done now
