Question:

Wouldn't it have been better fiction to have "god" re-create all the animals, than write an inane Noah story?

Did the fiction writers have any idea how idiotic their story was?

  1. There is NO story too silly for the bible...and for the fundies to swallow.

  2. Amazing how in a 'fiction story' it describes the least capsize-able object known to man.  Build a box in the dimensions which describe the ark and that is what you will find.

I also find it interesting that There is no Redwood tree (a tree which has no disease or pestilence) on the planet older than 5000 years of age which is how long ago the Bible says the great flood happened.  Finally, I find it interesting that the great ice caps that science says are so many millions of years old ... if one assumption is changed as for how to date them ... that the layers are storms rather than years ... Suddenly they are only 5000 years old ... as verified by a scientist bold enough to look at a different model than the commonly accepted one.

Fiction that can be verified is not fiction, nor idiotic.

Edit: I wrote the above reply from memory, but going back to the articles, I find that my memory has leaked a bit in the past 10 years since I read them.  The date of the flood could be more like 6000 years ago.

  3. I've wondered that myself. Or if god is so all mighty, why just give the animals the ability to survive under water water for a while.

  4. They had no idea. Their vision of the world was about the size of Rhode Island. Most of the writers of the Old Testament were homebodies who never went anywhere and never saw anything. They wrote based on their limited knowledge and the silliness of the Noah story bears out their ignorance of the world.

  5. I doubt it seemed inane to whichever ancient mesopotamian loaded all of his goods and chattles onto a barge, in order to ride out a terrible local flood in the Tigris or Euphrates valley.

  6. Maybe better fiction, but not better fact.

The Bible is fact, all of it.

What I find idiotic is that some people continue to find fault with a book that has been proved true over and over again.

  7. Maybe it seemed plausible to people back then.

Today we know it to be a silly story.
